Warriors impress me a lot as they can fit into nearly any role you can think of except for a dedicated healer (Guardian, Engineer and Elementalist have it beat there).

I think I can spec my warrior in such a way as to prove you wrong. Depends on how potent a certain trait is.

So, other than PvP or WvWvW or apparently the dungeons I haven't gotten to yet, is there any incentive to group up in actual parties rather than just doing stuff loosely knit with other people who happen to be doing the same things as you?

Or . . . have I just not gotten there yet?

Unless you're playing with friends or doing some sort of event that requires coordination, not really. Just roam and follow other people around.

I will be adding screenshots to my FFXI screenshot thread later.

Also a mesmer is basically the game's equivalent of a Bard. It specialises in enfeebling magic and buffing. I love having one on the party because it makes me more awesome at whatever my role is in the party.

I'll grab a few screenshots when I get home today. I've been finding a metric asstonne of dyes, and I've had a lot of fun mixing and matching. My three established themes so far are Paladin, Lannister, and Nighthawk.

I have a red and gold theme for my Thief that works pretty well for town gear.

I also have a bright pink outfit for my thief because the reactions you get in PvP are hilarious.

But I don't have a general theme per se, I just dye my armour to match the zone's terrain on my Thief and Warrior.

My Guardian has a white and red white mage theme though :3

So I've finished with the race specific section of my personal story and moved on to joining one of the three orders. The writing for the generic section seems comparatively weak, and cliche. It all pretty much assumes I'm playing as a human, or at least doesn't account for the fact that people will be playing through these missions as a Charr. I joined the Vigil and it's like they didn't really account for the fact that my character is pretty much on par with or outright superior to these schmucks given his time serving the Legion. They treat you like you're some wet-behind-the-ears doe-eyed squishy pink skinned adventurer, totally not accounting for the fact that my character is a battle-hardened beast born from the war-machine that is the entire Charr culture. It's very irritating.

I really just want to tell the Vigil to go screw themselves and go back to the Iron Legion and my warband.

Are you really liking the game? I couldn't get over the bad graphics (compared to ffixv) and not being able to play with a game pad...

I couldn't get over the bad game-play in FFXIV. The graphics in GW2 aren't the best, but the style is great and the two work well together.

This game is absolutely beautiful on every level.

The game is simply a joy to play.

I think if you're really that attached to using a gamepad there are some folks who've scoped out how to make that happen, but there's nothing official yet. Default control scheme is a bit clunky though, I'll give you that. I ended up getting a logitech g600 and now everything's fine.

With no monthly fees I'd say even if you don't stick with it long term you're more than likely to get your money's worth out of your purchase.

Yeah I tweaked with the control scheme until I got something I'm comfortably with:

Q and E = Slot 2 and 1
1, 2 and 3 = Slots 3-5
4 = Elite
Z, X, C = Utilities
V = Heal
S = Evade Backwards
A and D = Strafe left and right

Basically all the controls that I need are all where my left hand covers. I use the mouse to turn because it's so much more faster and efficient than keyboard turning. Because of that I don't need a backpedal key either so I had that set to roll backwards.
