  • Re: Guild Wars 2

I've already spent around $75 in their cash shop. For the digital edition, and keys, and a salvage kit.

So I played some more of the Engineer tonight.

        I think I'm in love.

Yeah, I've decided on Asura Engineer when I start up. Cliche, but fits so well.

Now to play the waiting game...

So I've been alternating playing a Warrior solo, and playing a Thief with my brother while he plays his ranger. My warrior hits like a truck, but my thief is pretty much immortal due to the amount of blind abilities I use with him. In a fight against a group boss, my brother and I managed to keep the boss blinded almost indefinitely due to smoke-screen, a 5 second sigil ability, and one of my sword + pistol abilities. Hell, even while playing at range, poison shot + cluster-bomb gives an area weakness effect, turning every hit taken into a glancing blow. (And that's not even mentioning when a Warrior with a Long Bow uses his adrenaline exploding arrow, I can cluster-bomb combo that into about 20-25 stacks of might.)

Also, Emhry Bay, if I spelled that right, has been completely dominating in WvWvW the past few nights.

Edit: That moment when a boss is spamming a rapid-fire AoE attack, and you pop haste while inside smoke screen + black powder, and your group doesn't take a hit due to everyone hitting him proccing blindness.

Glad I'm not the only one who sees how awesome Shortbow and Dagger/Pistol is for Thief. I'm sure it's going to get nerfed at some point because that combo is seriously overpowered. Shortbow plus Dagger/Pistol with Shadow Refuse, Blinding Powder and Smoke Bombs makes you pretty much untouchable and you have some really nice healing too if you put about 20 points into Shadow Arts. It's a great support build.

A lot of people seem to disregard bows where they can, and go straight for the guns or dual wielding. Even on my warrior, I've been annihilating things with my long-bow, while other warriors are running around chiseling things down with a rifle. I honestly don't mind being a support as a thief considering any of the procced blind effects are only 1 second, other than one of the signets which lasts for 5, it honestly does feel like I'm helping the party a lot. If they DO choose to nerf it, then I'll just go poison / condition or something else.

The great sword is pretty overpowered for warriors. It inflicts a stacking vulnerability on auto-attack, which is 1% increased damage per application. Not only does it have a gap-closer, it also has a powerful slow. It's second ability is a fast flurry of attacks, it's third a moving spin attack (Tryndamere), and the burst has an increased chances to critically hit based on adrenaline. It doesn't have the kind of control the hammer has, but it does a lot more damage.

The normal sword is nice, as well. It applies a bleed effect with every auto-attack and about 10 from the burst, which is unmitigated damage, making it more useful with boss fights.

I still mean to post those pictures. I upgraded my iron mail to steel plate, and I look more and more like a paladin with each set of armor. Soon our guild will have an armorer who will sell us gear with our emblem on it. That will be sweet to have on a shield.

Twin Pistols are pretty nice though. The burst damage on Thief with them is insane, and Engineers with Twin Pistols have a status effect on every single attack which is insane.

Basically for Thief: Shortbow for support and AoE damage, Twin Pistols for moar deepeeess and single target annihilation.

It's just in games like this players go for the selfish option and max out damage for the individual and assume that that speeds up killing. The most efficient way of killing stuff in this game is inflicting status effects to control incoming damage and throwing down buffs to maximise outgoing damage for the entire group.
