"While we wait for a concrete release date of the Parasite Eve spin-off, The 3rd Birthday, it looks like Square Enix is already thinking of extending the franchise to the PS3, that is, if the PSP title will sell as well as its predecessors. Speaking to VideoGamer.com at Gamescom, famed Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase says:

"The team had a lot of experience and knew a lot about making a game for PSP which is why we chose PSP as the platform for this game. But if this game turns out to be a success then we’d be looking at extending the franchise into PS3."

Why not just get some handhelds then? I'm sorry but if you like Japanese games, that seems to be where a lot of them go these days. Japan plays games on handhelds more often than consoles.

And people want to sell their games, so they make them for the platform they'll sell on.

Apparently amidst all the piracy there are enough honest people out there buying this stuff, too.

If you want these games, then get a PSP. All the crying in the world isn't going to bring it to PS2 or PS3.

That aside, I find it rather humorous that the main character's HP is represented by how much she's still wearing not an actual HP bar.

Will there be a recap in this game or do I have to play the prior two games to follow it? Word is PE and PE2 are about to be put up on PSN in the next couple of months.

I have a DS, and used to have a PSP, its something about a hand held that keeps me from really getting into some games on them, that and my poor eyesight makes the small screens EVIL!.......

For instance, I have Dragon Quest IX, love the game to death, but have not touched it in about 2 weeks, and I really dont know why.

I guess all I can really hope for is a PS2 re-release, like what Konami did with Silent Hill: Origins, and Silent Hill: SM

I might get a PSP again, but if I do it needs to be a 2000 so I can hack the crap out of it and get my emulation on it. Having it play all my NES/SNES stuff would up its value to me a great deal.

At least with the PSP I could hook it up to my TV, not the greatest looking, but it worked ;p

As much as I love having more games for my PSP...

wtf? They finally make a new PE and it's on PSP of all platforms... so you take a niche series that no one has seen in years, and you develop it for arguably the smallest market share in the gaming arena. Bravo.

Ugh. Same thing with Valkyria 2 but oh well. As long as it's good I'm happy, but again a PS3 version would have been preferred.

I probably have shittier eyesight than you and I have no problems with the size of the screens, I can't see clearly beyond four inches from my face. If its hard on the eyes, raise the backlight setting.

lol My eyes are so bad but I play on my DS (though it is an XL) and PSP all the time. I have an astigmatism, I'm near sighted, and I'm far sighted.....ya basically I'm fucked. lol

well my eye sight is only part of it, I can not really get comfortable while playing a hand held, but again atleast for PSP that can be fixed by plugging it into the TV.

On this I agree. I have blown discs in my neck and get frequent migraines from my neck issues. So bending my neck down to look at a game console tends to give me a headache/migraine after a short period of time. It's really put a crimp in my handheld gaming......and I tried holding the system up higher but damn that hurts the arms after a while! I do find that I can contort myself in bed and be able to play for a longer period but again eventually something cramps or starts to hurt and then I give up. My backlog is only getting bigger at this rate. lol I seriously considered having my spine fused so that HOPEFULLY the headaches would go away and I'd be able to play my games.

I still think Sony oughta release a UMD drive for PS3; it'd be pretty cheap at this point, and having PS3's power could give some nifty things (upscaling mayhap, improved loading speed assuming they let you write some information to the HDD).

Gaming on handheld still can't match the quality and experience of gaming on a console like PS3, mew.

3rd Birthday clearly looks like a low budget game due to PSP limitations. but I guess it's success will determine if the series will return to console where it belongs.

well um um even if it was made for PSP originally instead of cellphone, it would still look bad.

I mean compare Crisis Core with Final Fantasy XIII visuals and sound!

well SE does deserve a cookie for giving Parasite Eve a chance to test the waters and go further from there.

I think they should continue the Tobal series, but without Dream Factory, they might mess it up.
