    Reminder: Dragon Quest Event at Gamestop July 31st

    Gamestop is hosting one of the many Dragon Quest IX events Nintendo seems to be planning for the next few weeks. The plan is for you to be able to meet up with other players and gain maps fron Canvass Mode and pick up some advanced boss maps GameStop will be making available through that mode.

    The link above also leads to some events being held at various malls. I only just got my first treasure map in the game and I'll be playing through that later today.

    . . . these are the times where I hate having both a gaming backlog and a shortage of money combined both totally locking me down from buying new games like this. Dragon Quest IX looked like something that I'd actually want to try sometime.

      The exclusive maps Gamestop is distributing will also be available to download at a later date, this even just lets you get them earlier than SE would have released them. This is just letting people have access to those special maps early. They contain ramped up versions bosses from previous games, by my understanding.

      The risk in waiting to play DQIX is only that you'll be missing these live events which may be one of your few chances to find other people in Tag Mode and a rare opportunity to collect their treasure. The maps are randomly generated when the player gets in them in-game and the map one player got from a quest might be different from the map another player got. Everything from monsters to treasure to bosses are generated on these maps and they can be traded to other players.

      Some of them are endgame sorts of hard, too.

        Went out today and swept up about 9 new maps in Canvass Mode at the event today. about 18 people showed up for it. All the people that turned out were about 23 to 45 years of age, save for one kid. The oldest had driven three hours to get her map.

        The map they distributed today - Zoma - is a boss map. He was one of the optional bosses in DQIII. Murdered my party badly, so he's more for parties level 40 and up.

        Best Buy has the next event Aug 7th and various malls will have an event August 7th through September 19th. These events seem to start at 12pm and end at 4pm so there's a small window to grab these boss maps and meet up with others to canvass for guests.

        Important note. There's a room in the far left of the Quester's Rest that has all your canvassed guests in it. You can really only canvass up to 3 guests at a time, so if you wish to keep them around, you must talk to the new guests and obtain their maps before you go canvassing for more in Tag Mode, otherwise they take off.

        I got hooked up with a good map for when I'm higher level, there's one floor of Metal King slimes on it, so the guy that brought that was the most popular guy. Simply put, they give 12,000 EXP per kill. Kind of a big deal.

        Most of us didn't even care to do the multiplayer, just share the maps, which is what everyone was really excited to do
