    DC Universe Online PS3 and PC Online Beta signups begins!

    DC Universe Online

    This is great news also for FFXIV PS3 fans that have to wait until March for FFXIV, but at least with the DCUO beta, we might have some kind of mmorpg to enjoy on PS3! It might be fun! Especially with super powerz, mew!

        How so? Been in development for a good long while. Jim Lee got so tied up in this project that Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder wasn't able to continue its run, though Frank Miller being a moody bitch didn't help matters. Geoff Johns is writing the stories and if you know your comics, that's worth your attention. He's been leading up some excellent work on Superman and Green Lantern these last few years.

            There are a lot of interesting things going on for this game at any rate. You can convert to most "roles" MMOs are known for just using powers. I'm just hoping the powers they're allowing stay true to the universe.

            Things like how the Lantern "spectrum" functions. Well, Orange Lanterns might be a tad complicated, as they're able to create and control projections of the people they kill. At the very least make sure Green Lanterns are weak to yellow.

                I'm personally not even a big fan of DC's stuff (I've always been a Marvel fanboy for some reason) but I put in an app for this beta since a friend of mine loves comics and MMOs and hopefully we'll be able to play together. Unfortunately I suck at creating the "super hero" type character, as I've never been able to come up with one I liked in any of the other Super Hero MMOs I've played.

                Still, it's nice to see at least one MMO that's able to do the whole cross platform thing the right way =/

                    What ziero said, I'd have a hard time coming up with a character type i think... I might check it out though, only because for most of my heavy collecting time frame, middle thru high school tapering off around '99, I was a marvel/image fanboy also. It wasn't until my buddy who stayed with comics through out his entire military enlistment, and got me turned on to some amazing stories that DC put out.

                    -Green Lantern (this was his favorite, and after reading it i fully understood why) specifically when he went bat shit crazy and beat the shit out of the entire corp to get to Oa and the green lantern.
                    -Kingdom Come ... This story was so Fu-ck-in-g amazing. If you have 2 hrs to kill swing by barnes and noble, or books a million and read this graphic novel. SHAZAM!
                    -when Jim Lee started to do the art work for batman, I almost lost my shit, he is such an amazing artist.

                      What was impressive about Green Lantern is that they didn't do what they've done with Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman. Usually when they change something with those three it only sticks for a year or two. We have yet to see of Bruce Wayne comes back to full duties as Batman or just lets Dick Grayson keep the job. I think they might actually go that way since they need a Brooding/humored dichotomy to make Batman and Robin work.

                      If Bruce takes the gig back its brooding socialite/brooding uppity brat. Dick Grayson makes Batman the lighter half now, which I think is a pleasant change.

                      But Green Lantern... they turned Hal Jordan into a villain and maintained that for about a decade. Kyle Rayner became the last Green Lantern and earned the respect of readers, while Hal became the villainous Parallax and had a heel/face turn midway. In a way, Green Lantern was still about Hal in a lot of ways and with GL: Rebirth they finally redeemed him. They did it in an interesting way, too, something that explained everything perfectly. There was not obvious cheating or retconning done to bring him back to hero status.

                      Kingdom Come is also great.

                      They just put the first issue of Kingdom Come up on PSN for download on PSP, by the way.

                          Marvel pulled the plug with a game halfway through development. So they simply removed all Marvel IP and it became Champions Online (with the purchase of Champions IP).

                            That's pretty much what I heard happened to the Marvel MMO as well. I did try CO, as well as CoH, but I couldn't really decide what kind of hero I wanted in either of them so I never really got into the games, plus CO barely ran on my com anyway.
