And that's not even counting the possibility for regional servers instead of worldwide.
well if it comes to regional servers, that is reasonable steps to take if they want an MMO combined with action-fast combat and as little lag as possible.

Guess I'll just buy the game from Steam and randomly pick a PC server.

I certainly hope so, and I'm planning on upgrading next year anyway so will probably do very well unless it is as badly made as XIV.

I can run all the games I have at max settings and 2x-4x AA with my current rig, but can't get more than 1600-something on XIV's benchmark.

PC gamer - Allergic to people who play on PS3, well-mannered in-game but an annoying, whiny bitch on forums. Game developers are evil and there's a conspiracy at every turn. Measures dick by PC build.

PS3 gamer - Not allergic to cross-platform play, ill-mannered in game but more objective in forum discussions. Thinks PS3 is better than 360 and Wii and will not be convinced otherwise.

I've always been a PC gamer (online) and actually like crossplatform features.

But then again I've always owned at least 1 console in addition to a PC.

And maybe it's because I'm influenced by the JLA propaganda, but I don't see myself playing this (and only this) game solo.

So if I reaaally like it I may buy both versions and check communities for myself, then choose where I will spend the rest of my time.

Continuing my journey to try catching up to everything after Zero Hour (the last comic series I read) I've found out more about Kyle Rayner.

                He rocks. o_O

But now I don't know where to start looking for his comics. XD

Oh man your a Lantern fan...Well you have a long and epic travel through methos of DC if yo are starting from Zero Hour. Technically the next in the line would be 2000 Green Lantern Circle of Fire I believe. Sorry I am not more exact was never to into the Lanterns specific sagas (even though there issues tend to end the entire universe if they are not solved).Edit: Actually according to wiki and the dates match up on the archive listings at DCComics. He hit the pages of JLA before that arc. What issues I didnt look into deep enough.

Now do you mean players using the rings?

Machines (name escapes me at the moment) Lex release contain the specifics of powers and knowledge of both villains and heroes. Which allows for lots of knowledge specifically the ring or powers similar via Sinestro and Adam Scott both of who had rings separate from Oa. Adam Scott Starheart connection for example manifests with out a ring with his daughter jade blah blah blah here's your ring go save the world.

If you mean ring powers in the game?

They were originally designed under the specifications of "light" power type. But in pre alpha there was a huge reconstruction of powers, battle, and overall game balance. When this happened light wasn't possible in the old way so changes that the devs never explained (I don't know the whole story I just skim tops past 15 pages normally) need to be made. So it was not going to be available on launch. With the extension of deadline dev posts on forums said that they will be able to work out some more issues with the time as well as beta testing. People assumed that was for things like the light power type it was never specifically said, but it is a fair conclusion with the fact that even if the green lantern was not a DC flag holder for fans of DC the name is rather important.

Re: DC Universe Online PS3 and PC Online Beta signups begins!

I could do a long-story-short about Kyle, but he more or less plays a large role in bringing the Corp back. He also became the god-like Ion for a bit, but that eventually passed on to another GL in the distant future. Kyle is seen by the Guardians as the torch-bearer of the Corp.

As for the whole Lantern spectrum. I could see how it gets a bit too complcated for an online game. There's a order of Lanters for each color of the spectrum and while "Willpower" as Green might bee easy to realize, the way the others are set up is a even a bit silly for comic books. I mean, Blue Lanterns (Hope) have to rely on Green Lanterns to even do anything, only being able to totally fend off Red (Rage) otherwise.

I dunno, I guess Yellow (Fear) is easy enough and Orange (Avarice) is kind of a necromancer. But then there's Azure (which is bending blue toward purple) and I don't even know what they do besides act all steadfast and spiritual . Maybe they buff people? I dunno. I didn't get too far in Blackest Night to read up on them.

Then there's Pink, the Star Sapphires and their Love (with a dash of lust). You know some guy is going to screw with that, seeing as Star Sapphires can only be female. This will be like a Male Mithra/Female Galka thing - fans that don't understand mythos will demand this is done away with, even though only women become Star Sapphires in the comics.

"Indigo" was obviously not a good enough name for them.

Re: DC Universe Online PS3 and PC Online Beta signups begins!

The Wikis out there actually do a respectible timeline, I drop out of reading comics for a few years then go back. Too expensive for me to keep up with even just Batman, really.

Really, though, you could go from Zero hour and the first few GLs after Emerald Twilight right on to Rebirth and have a general idea about Kyle. He loses a girlfriend to villian Major Force (who Kyle ends up really teeing off on) shortly after getting the ring, goes on to date Donna Troy but that doesn't work out, then falls for Jade (yes, the green chick). Alan Scott (classic GL) mentors Kyle at points since the guardians are gone. Kyle becomes the rookie of the JLA but eventually earns the respect of everyone there. He and Flash are kinda college jocks there, but in a good way (basically the same role Hal Jordan and Barry Allen had).

Kyle gets lost in time twice - once in JLA's Rock of Ages (Damn good read, btw) - and later within his own series around issue 100. He gets to meet Hal in the past, see how the corp once was before be kicked back to his own time.

But if you're really looking for some insight on Hal as Parallax, you're not going to get any of that until Green Lantern: Rebirth, though if you can find the Final Night event series, there's an important event there in Hal's existence as Parallax.

The Ion stuff went down in a period I didn't read.

Parallax eventually comes back and the Spectre bonds himself to Hal Jordan to try to set things right, which is a lead-in to Rebirth. Dunno how much you know of Spectre outside of Zero Hour, but I'm sure you've seen he's pretty much avenging angel of God (and self-absorbed at that) but also totally awesome. You know some shit has really hit the fan if Spectre becomes involved.

I guess they won't let you be a Spectre type in this game, heh. Spectre got a really great story in Final Crisis: Revelations. Art wasn't so hot, but real good story.

(Just for Kyle I mean, because I also need to catch up on Batman. orz )

I stopped watching after they went crazy on season... was it 3 or 4? Don't remember, it was around the time I completely stopped watching TV. But the first couple of seasons were pretty good.

Re: DC Universe Online PS3 and PC Online Beta signups begins!

Well batman is a whole different monster. Because since about Issue 400 of batman the series of batman has rarely just been about the bat. Now don't get me wrong he has not faded out and/or replaced, its just that Batman is more then a super hero he is Gotham in more ways then one. So much so that he ends up fighting The US government (which at this time is controlled by Lex Luthor how he got to be president I have no idea. ) and mother nature as an earthquake destroys Gotham forcing every baddie to pick up arms to cut their piece of the cake of Gotham. At this point the idea of the bat family got truly ironed out because the US declared Gotham a no mans land and forcing all able troops of the bat to carve out what strongholds they can and begin to retake Gotham. After that came a really hard dive back into Ra's Al Gul and the league of assassins in other books out of batman such as batgirl (Cassandra Cain) and Robin (Tim Drake) where they are put up to against some of the worst and best but really just makes them better characters but still boosting the untouchable peak that is Batman.

But going from Zero hour and skipping JLA (I rarely ever read them to be honest I have non in my collection). First comes the cataclysm where the earth splits and so does the people of gotham. Which leads directly into No mans land which is quite frankly really really big giving many one shots and even some views into Gotham PD. followed by the black mask which has the war games/war crimes are apart of. Which puts Black Mask at the top king pin of the underworld as well as many other significant events that I will not spoil making Black Mask a name to be remembered. Followed by an attack of a different type from Lex in Bruce Wayne: Murderer? and Bruce Wayne: Fugitive which clears the path to Superman/Batman 1-6 (yes a completely cannon crossover but seriously was really well done). But it is important to mention Batman Hush which happens after Bruce Wayne Fugitive where Hush a villain from the shadows of Bruce past come to town. This has some major story building points for the bat that still exist and today.

Ok and from here on it has a lot more detail to explain because it is so well woven (I believe by some sheer mastermind or dumb luck its a bit to broad to tell as the writers are great at what they do) so I will just give an ark break down as the actual process has changed due to continuity changes (Which if you look at it actual did happen or at least could have happen in a different time but the shattering of space and time kinda thing effects it.) and reveals to much of the story. So here is the list of arcs most of them most likely have graphic novels compressing them all together by arc by now.

                              After Zero Hour
                              Cataclysm
                              No man's Land
                              War Games
                              War Crimes
                              Bruce Wayne: Murderer?
                              Bruce Wayne: Fugitive
                              Hush
                              Superman/Batman (1-6)
Identity Crisis (Part of the crisis saga which includes zero hour)
Infinite Crisis (another part of the crisis saga)
                              Face to Face
                              Batman & Son
Justice League of America (relaunch of the series batman is a prime part as he lead its reconstruction)
Batman and the Outsiders (relaunch of the outsiders, batman recreates the outsiders)
                              Heart of Hush
The Batman of Zur-en-arrh (in Batman RIP,black case book explains this arch setup as it obscure
The Black Glove is taking hold (in Batman RIP)
Final Crisis (Part of the crisis saga)

Note these are not including side books such as nightwing, robin, one shots, birds of prey, ect.

It is not that hard to catch back up on the core stuff, but if you are a perfectionist or have an eye for detail to look out for hints or clues in the future it will take you a bit as alot of the issues are non stocked back issues. When I caught last year (of course I was at Hush already so I had less to cover) it took me about 3 months but mostly due to waiting for pay checks, shipping and finishing nightwing before I hit the current era.Hope the lists helps you find your grounds. If you put any of the arc names into wiki it should give an accurate read out of the events.

Current Batman era titles excluding one shots and miniseries. Also not including detective comics even though it is batman heavy it includes alot of things including batwomen (who is getting her own series), more stories of gotham.

                              Batgirl (relaunch in 2009)
                              Batman and Robin
                              Birds of Prey
                              Batman Inc

Also you might pick up the return of bruce wayne if nothing else as its end will cause changes across the board for Bat comics.

Ok i guess I went a bit over board I really like batman -_-. Hope this list helps if nothing else find digital scans.

On the smallville topic I stopped half way through second season, but that Luthor seems more like good gone bad. That's not really how I see Lex. He isn't ever a really normal guy, because if he was he wouldn't be so fascinated with power. If super humans never existed he would just be a rich Dbag but when he found out of power that makes him and everything he can possibly come up with or create useless against it he was fascinated with the idea of destroying it as if he will be made stronger by it. That makes him a good villain comparable to the Joker.

In terms of the DCU as a whole, Kyle isn't so great that he's worth investing so much time in, as the Green Lantern comics have returned to being centered around Hal Jordan. Kyle is relevant, but he's going to be like John Stewart. Kilowog or Guy Gardener in the grand scheme of things as these days he's just a supporting character

For contemporary GL, start with Rebirth, Brightest Day and then get into the Blackest Night stuff. That should cover you for the most part.
