NBC working on video game show pilot for primetime | Joystiq

According to a Joystiq source, NBC is developing a pilot for a show about gaming, focusing on gamer culture and the people who make games. According to the source, the project is being helmed by TJ "Ocman" Allard, a former Ubisoft designer. His co-host is Audrey Cleo, who currently works on Qore. The team is currently editing footage recorded at E3 for the pilot, including interviews with Kinect's Kudo Tsunoda and Mortal Kombat's Ed Boon.

Specific details, like a show name and distribution, have yet to be settled upon. However, our source says that the working title is currently "Game On." The pilot -- planned for primetime -- may even premiere as early as next month. If you happen to know more about this project, feel free to send us a tip. We will keep ]

These people that do "Gaming TV" shows - they realize we have the internet, right?

Our coverage of news and culture is as 24/7 as any other news its these days, to the point I wonder how G4 even stays on the air. Bottom line, gamers are informed. They're not going to attract gamers with this and they're going to annoy non-gamers with it.

      By turning into Spike TV.

Seriously, G4 didn't turn to Bond, Star Trek, and COPS because they have jack shit to do with gaming.

G4 was better off before the merger, but when you try to get flashy and highly profitable, you can't appeal to a niche. History Channel went through the same thing; became the "Nazis and Aliens" channel, although with things like Pawn Stars and American Pickers they seem to be finding a new ground where they can be popular and still have educational content. Likewise, Cartoon Network shows things other than cartoons now, I shit thee not. BBC America shows fucking Star Trek, which has fuck-all to do with the BBC or even Britain in general. The closest thing is that the Captain is played by a Brit, but even then he's playing a Frenchman. Oh, there's MSNBC, which spends most of the weekends broadcasting clearly-not-news documentaries, mostly about prison life, with the occasional murder story thrown in. Or FOX News, which has claimed themselves that most of their programming are opinion shows, not reporting or journalism. Or PBS, which doesn't have commercials, except it clearly does. Etc.

All the more reason to just turn to Netflix or Hulu and then get your news from the web. TV degenerated more than I thought it had, I stopped letting it be a fixture seven years ago.
