In an unrelated subject, I'm still bitter about the little bastard my mom allowed to borrow my GG and then stole most of the good games. /steam

Oh I hear ya! When my kids were younger they would be so nice to people and borrow out my stuff. >< Well, as you can imagine, seldom did it find its way home. One couple that lived across the street, with 2 kids, got my son and daughter to borrow them an assload of stuff. We all lived in an 800 sq ft apartment at the time so most of my stuff was packed away except for one system and a couple games. Some of the stuff they got my kids to let them "borrow" were my Odyssey and all its games and, worst of all, the Apple I that I begged and pleaded my uncle to give me when he moved here from California. They moved out just a couple weeks after the kids gave them the stuff.

Oh ya and another that still sticks in my craw was my Dragon Warrior IV game, brand new in the box. My daughter still needs to buy that for me...

No, everyone assumes that over a handful of half-read statements. Just look at MrMageo's reaction to my comments - I apparently a blazing 360 "fanboy" because I think MS has a better network.

Here's where my loyalties lie:

Wherever Metroid, Zelda, Shin Megami Tensei, Final Fantasy, Deus Ex, Metal Gear are and the developers behind such games are, I'll go. That's not to say I have to go there as soon as they turn up, either just that I'll get there eventually.

To say 3DS is not a serious blow to PSP is to be in denial. PSP just now is having its best year in software, but that's after five years. PSP has a solid place in the Japanese market, but it now accounts for 11% of portable software sold worldwide. Apple sells 29% of all portable gaming software, that leaves us with Nintendo at 60%.

And you know what? I think a lot more or PSP's games than I do Apple's, but trying to convince someone to get a PSP in the US is really akin to pulling teeth, even if you show them how awesome something like

But don't generalize and apply it to all gamers, 3D is great but its not OMFG AWESOME. I could see over the next 10 years things slowly gearing towards a 3D monopoly but to think its going to go from 0-60 is just wishful thinking.

And if you 've been keeping up with what I've been saying - I actually agree with you. I don't think its going to do anything for the console market because of the expense and how unpleasant wearing those glasses are.

Nintendo, though, made 3D a standard for 3DS and one I can shut off at any time. Developers have to make all games for it in 3D, just like they had to make all games on Wii with Motion control or all games on PS3 or 360 are in HD. Nintendo is making a standard here.

3D is not expected of a PS3 game, it will be expected of a 3DS game. And I won't need glasses. And I can turn it off. Can I say that about 3D PS3 games, aside from that I can probably turn the effect off?

There will be an audience for PSP just as there will be for the 3DS because there are graphic differences and exclusives. I think that Sony is probably redesigning the PSP as we speak, what changes they are making, who knows. They could also be waiting to see if Nintendo steps in it with the 3DS or if there is enough demand to consider a possible 3D option for the next PSP.

Sony is sticking the "10 Year plan" line. Look, I'm not saying I'm tossing the PSP into a bonfire after I get my 3DS, but just based on the developer response, I see maybe another decent year of software before PSP gets left behind.

And yes, naturally, Sony is going to wait and see. That's how they do things. But I expected to be something like what Nintendo did, but a lot more expensive. We all know that despite the "Ten Year Plan" line with PS2, Sony made PS3 a priority the moment they knew 360 was launching and Nintendo wouldn't be that far behind. I'm pretty sure we'll see a PSP2 design spec pushed out by next summer at least.

Hey, I don't disagree with you there. If anything, I'll take PSP's library over Apple's any day of the week. I think the problem with PSP for me is that while it does have games, too many of them are stuff that were also intended to be games for PS2... except PSP just doesn't have the dual analog thing so they have to suddenly work around that.

The games that are made with PSP in mind tend to be the ones that are better off. More or less, it took a lot time for people to realize the thing wasn't really a PS2. Some still haven't figured it out and try anyway.

I agree with the basic principal of what you are saying, but allow me to offer some counterpoints for the sake of arguement.

The "app" world is only 3 years old. There have been at least a few dozen original games released that are worth the time and money, dependant of course on whether you like the type of game or not. Odds are if you don't know that then you don't own one of these devices. There are also some ported titles that are really good as well.

The ipad is barely 3 months old and I imagine there are some games in development right now that may make us all wish we had one when they get released.

Ultimately it is up to the developers to decide they want to make a quality game. Unfortunately we have to live with A LOT of other crappy cheap apps until then. Someone needs to raise the bar.

tldr: The iDevice wasn't a good mobile gaming platform, the iDevice is a decent mobile gaming platform, the iDevice will be a better mobile gaming platform. Give it some time to mature.

I think the iPhone is a terrible platform for games from a hardware and OS perspective; it's just that over 9000 people have one.

Once this phrase is uttered it's almost always a case of: Kettle meet Pot, Pot meet Kettle.

You can say that I guess, and usually it would be right, but I take pride in owning more systems and games than most teenage asians. I have had at one point all three current Gen, the last 3 gen, PS, N64, Sega Saturn, Turbo Grafx, SNES, NES, I still own a Gameboy, a GBA, a Game Gear, a PSP, a DS and a virtual boy.

I have a collection of several hundred games spaning all the consoles and handhelds, as well as memory sticks loaded with DLC.

I am hardy a fanboy, I appreciate gaming to its fullest. I think every system ever made has perks and downfalls over other systems.

One of Xbox downfalls is the requirement to pay to play online, which is why I traded mine away. One of sony's perks was free t play online. This still remains, and now they have added features for a price.

Unlike BBQ I don't see it as sucky, you have the option to get this additional stuff unlike other systems where it is required.

If me disliking having to pay an additional 50 dollars a year to enjoy playing games on one system (when I have several hundred games to choose from over a dozen different outlets) makes me a fan boy then sign me up.

XBL is the only gripe I have against Xbox. (well that and a lack of any real franchise games other than halo an forza which they messed up). I have gripes against all of the big three, but I still buy content from them and use their products (with the exception of XBOX atm cause I can't be assed to replace my 360 for 3-4 games that I don't have on ps3).

But if it mean anything. Nintendo is still by far the most innovative and fun system around, so if I were to fanboy it would be for them not Sony.

I apologize somewhat for labeling your comment... but not entirely and I refuse to take it back. I tire easily these days of all the fanboy ranting/console-wars BS and your line fit the shoe I've seen worn so many times. I didn't know and/or don't really care about your history with consoles so I'll give you the oppurtunity to know and not care about mine.

I own and have owned many systems (Oddysey(?),NES, TG16, GameGear, Amiga, Gcube, GB/A didn't get into PS's cuz college, theater and girls took presidence). Currently I have a 360, PS3, PSP, and SNES. Sold my Wii cuz it was boring in non-party settings.. I do not find $50/yr for XBL absorbant at all. 2x $50/yr means I have to make a choice and I find essentially paying for discounts, web TV series, and timed demo's idiotic. After using Sony's online, XBL, and Wii's online, I also found (after an initial getting used to it bit) XBL's format surpasses the others. I'll be totally honest when I say I hated PSN and Home... huge wastes of my time. Searching thru that was stuff was tedious and I found I would rather just play the great games Sony has that I barely have any time for.

I'm merely a fan of gaming... and trolling fanboy'ish comments. That is all.

I see it this way, we each have preferences for different or the same reasons. We are entitled to our preferences but when you start pounding on one system over the other and rubbing their nose in it, you sound like a fanboy and are treated as such.

I do not mind paying $30-$35 a year for Gold Live...and if you are paying more you are an idiot. I love the interface, hate the majority of idiots on it, but utilize the dashboard to the fullest extent. I will buy the first year of Plus. I will give it a shot and hope they come out with cards that you can buy for the service so I can hopefully get it cheaper online. If I can pay $60-$75 a year for both systems, I just may stick with both. If I can't, then I may have to choose one over the other. At this point, because I don't have the experience with Plus yet, I'll pick Live. Live is easier to use, I don't get dropped offline as much, and I prefer the chat interface. I don't know how hyped I can get over getting some free games that I probably won't even play or getting demos early that I usually don't have time to d/l and play right away anyways.

And Kitten, I don't believe your impartiality one bit! I wouldn't be surprised if you had the Nintendo Gold Seal tattooed on your ass! lol

As for the mobile gaming platform, I think it has its own niche and will thrive. I play games on my iPad every day and its perfect. I love my Plants vs Zombies, Zenonia 2, Sneezies, 10 Pin, Knights OnRush, Chaos Rings, Farm Frenzy 2, Pool Pro Online, I Dig It, Veggie Samurais, Toki Tori, Skee Ball (I REALLY love my Skee Ball!), etc There is definitely a place for mobile gaming but I do not think that it will replace handheld gaming consoles at all. It just gives us an additional option while we are out and about.

I sold my iPhone but will be buying a new iPhone next year. Screw these Android phones, I've had nothing but god damn issues with them and I'm sick of getting replacements. My son is getting the Droid X in the middle of July and we'll see how it goes for him. He's only had one Android phone so far and he returned his too.
