  • Demon's Souls Question

Hey all, just picked up the game a day or two ago and I have what might be a really dumb question, but, how do you level up? I read that you talk to the Black Maiden and use souls to levelup, but I cannot find her.

I have a bit over 10k in souls, on the first level, and I really wanna know since I just found some dragons. After the difficulty of killing some red eyed knight dude, and the ease with which some guy with a green aura behind a locked mausoleum door killed me, I'm not sure I can try to fight a dragon and retrieve my souls if I get killed.

    Halp!

Great game, makes me think of a European Onimusha.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

Demon's Souls English Wiki: The Maiden in Black

Seems you need to beat Phalanx before you can cash in. The mainden in black moves around a bit, too, but she's usually standing outside the last archstone you entered.

The Atlus USA forums can also be of more help on this, as they still have an moderately active community for that game.

Yea, you need to beat Phalanx. Beat him a while ago, and can't get past the second boss after upping stats, and farming to days. lol. Its a very unforgiving game XD

Thanks 'Kitten, didn't think of checking wiki for this info.

Haha, the red eyed knight is super powerful, and the guy with the green aura is some megasuper boss.

Yea, you're really not supposed to fight the Red Eyed Knight or the guy in green armor until you know what you're doing in the game and have some decent gear. There's usually (if not permanently) a note written on the ground warning people not to fight them until they're more experienced, if it's not there though I know I'll certainly be putting one down today.

But yea, you gain access to the Maiden after you beat the first boss. He's easy enough as long as you keep some fire abilities/items at the ready (firebombs make quick work of him) and once you flip the two levers on both sides of the tower the front gate will always be open putting him literally right at the start of the level.

In this game there's a lot of backtracking involved, you don't have to fight everything you come across right when you meet them. In fact it's often a much better idea for people to try and use stealth and run away from things that are too strong.

Also, I recommend ignoring any actual FAQs until you're either impossibly stuck or you beat the game. It's a much better experience if you don't know what's coming around every corner and need to rely on notes, bloodstains and white phantoms to warn you of danger or other secrets.

I just wish you could fight it again if you wanted too. I LOVED that fight. Best fight in ANY RPG game I have yet to play (Next to LoZ as nothing beats that game lol).
