Probably because lots of people don't like voice chat, even with filters.

And btw, WoW is not the only MMO that supports VOIP.

PC MMOs rarely seem to take advantage of it too. The only PC MMO that actually uses it is WoW and it's a pretty good idea since it saves havng Vent running in the background and Vent's keybinds conflicting with your keybinds can be a pain.

It just strikes me as something simpler than trying to come up with a pad like that when you get the same functionality on the PS3 by buying a USB keyboard and/or cheap USB headset.

As Feba pointed out, it's not just WoW. I know that LoTRO launched with in-client voice chat, and I'm fairly certain a few others have it as well.

Personally I don't like voice chat. If it's required for some event for whatever reason, then ok, for that short period of time I'll do it. But most of the time I don't WANT to hear everyone just sort of making small talk. At least when it's in text form I don't have to read it if I don't want to.

But on the other hand, a lot of people do enjoy it, so it would be nice to include it for those folks. I know most of the people I played FFXI with on the 360 would throw together an impromptu chat room when they played. So I can see something like that continuing with the PS3 at least.

Vent still does a much better job though, WoW and LotR's built in voice sucks.

I agree Murphie, I don't care to make small talk with some people. I remember one time I was on vent for FFXI and there was a husband and wife team on. I had to listen to them neglect their kids as they begged and cried for supper. Once I heard them beating the shit out of one of their kids because he dared to bother them while they were gaming.

I'm not sure how I feel about small talk. On the one hand, it would be kinda neat to walk around a town and hear the people around you talking, the bustle you get when a lot of voices overlap quietly. And replacing /shout with volume would be hilarious. "What's that sound over the hill?" "Looks like some noob is getting his ass kicked by a sheep." If voice chat worked on a global scale like that, I definitely wouldn't use it. Though that would be a hilarious scenario.

I agree with you on that. I would rather have a party chat system, or guild chat system.

So, you don't have to drop your controller, type in a few lines of text, then hit enter, and pick up your controller again to continue fighting. With the way it is set up now, a party voice chat would be nice.

Speaking of controllers, this is a controller thread. TGM, have you seen the G115? I saw a box at BBY, thought it might make a decent replacement for my G15 (luckily, it'll last another year... since I won't be using it.)

Honestly, my G15 is fine, but the right support strut broke. I have it up on an eraser right now, but that's getting to be a bit much whenever I have to use anything to the right of enter. I really don't want to replace my G15, but I can't rationalize buying a new keyboard just to cannibalize the strut, and I'm not going to steal one from a display model. That reminds me, I should sent logitech an email about it.

I was going to get that to play WoW on my laptop but since my gaming laptop went tits up, I haven't bothered with it. But I certainly have been thinking about it since I'm contemplating playing FFXIV.

When I want to sit back and relax in a nice and comfortable chair, holding a controller that contours to my hands, I don't use a keyboard, but I use a controller. When in more serious situation, I do use a keyboard.

The thing I was saying about voice chat the way this game is set up, will be nice. Mainly because their is no real auto attack this time around.

Ok....looking for "hole things in the top"...I see 3 slots on either side of my LCD screen for ventilation but other than that I don't see any random useless holes anywhere. lol You may have an older or newer version because I don't see what you're talking about Feba.
