For those who are at work:

Peripherals maker Hori is getting ready for Final Fantasy XIV on PS3, and getting ready to upsize your PS3 controlling experience. The company had this "PS3 MMO Controller" on display at its E3 booth, featuring a rather insane-looking tabletop left-hand thing, and a keyboard with PS3 analog stick and face buttons attached.



We say Hori is getting ready for FFXIV, but it's not ready yet. This controller was a "concept model" only, with no information about a release date or price.

glad that is just a concept model, because its pretty bad.

why in the hell make something like that for an MMORPG that's on a console, designed to work best with a controller?

That keyboard is a miserable pile of wasted components. Doesn't look comfortable in the least.

I'll wait to see if Logitech revisits the controller they made for EQOA and FFXI.

I won't be touching this inbred piece of crap.

Ya a friend sent me a pic from E3 of this. He took it with a really bad cell camera though so I was a little meh about it. He likes to harass me because I used to go on and on about the Logitech keyboard/controller combo that I used for FFXI. He wanted to know what I thought of this "abomination". lol I think it has possibilities. I love Hori products so that will make me watch it to see if they add to it or change it up. I could see this for use on PC too.

Seems interesting to say the least. If they made it look more comfortable, and changed it around some, then there might be something there that I would buy.

I have been looking for a Keyboard for my PS3 for when FFXIV comes out as I know for a fact that my pc won't be able to run ffxiv lol. It can just barely run WoW FFS XD.

My personal opinion:

If I am playing on a console,
1) I would like a controller to wireless.
2) I would prefer a controller where it wont be difficult to talk in battle. (Currently I have to put down my controller to type which makes typing in battle was very difficult)
2a) I assuming getting messages/invites via PS3 will happen therefore, being able to hit the PS button to type a reply message/accept an invite should also be considered.
3) I probably will not be using a keyboard stand/desk to play my console, the keyboard will be sitting in my lap. Buttons/analog stick on the keyboard will be difficult to use because of the angle I would need to press them and the keyboard will need a counter balance to the weight of my hand.
4) The idea of a one handed controller is brillant (I used one many years ago with my PS2 for non-action games). I would also need to be wireless.

Great idea...horrible execution. But considering how many MMOs are planned for the PS3, it's definitely something that could see a lot of use.

It looks like it has potential, but it also looks like it would be costly.

Why don't they just add voice chat functionality to parties for PS3 MMOs? Phantasy Star Universe had it as did White Knight Chronicles. It saves having to balance a keyboard on your lap then learning how to play the game one handed for when you need to type things.

PC MMOs rarely seem to take advantage of it too. The only PC MMO that actually uses it is WoW and it's a pretty good idea since it saves havng Vent running in the background and Vent's keybinds conflicting with your keybinds can be a pain.

It just strikes me as something simpler than trying to come up with a pad like that when you get the same functionality on the PS3 by buying a USB keyboard and/or cheap USB headset.
