  • Re: E3 2010

That and I am quite sure I would need to change my very nice HD tv in for a 3D TV in order to use, which is not going to happen. Considering it is only 3 years old and bought for my PS3 (well blu ray mostly).

If I had a 3DS id totally use the 3D but I am not going to go out and buy one based on that alone, I have a PSP it is 3D enough for me and has been for half a decade, gimmicks are gimmicks, and overall this was a very gimmicky e3 on all accounts. I am just looking forward to the upgrades to the PS3's internal components, considering I need a new one as my phat PS3 has decided to quit reading discs. go go first run bluray drives.

      E3 is always interesting

      Before
      Sony: lol motion gimic
      MS: lol motion
Nintendo: we thought it would be a good idea *shrugs*

      Now
Sony: OMG we have Wiimote now, buy our stuff
MS: We dont even need a controller! Motion FTW
Nintendo: 3D hand held gaming! Glasses? oh no you don't need those silly things. Motion? oh yeah it has that too.

Sorry Sony, I might have just bought a PS3, but I am not about to buy a new TV and those stupid glasses for your "amazing and game changing" 3D

and sorry Microsoft, but your new slim...and you still have not learned anything, still RRoD, still disk drive scratching issue, and the HDD is still your proprietary BS -.-

I'm pretty sure the DSi supports mp3 playback, which would imply being connected to a computer to download them. Then again, I've never actually seen a DSi, and I think the only person here who has one is TGM, who only bought to keep them in their boxes, unopened, occasionally stroking the packaging while hissing. I don't see Nintendo working backwards in media functionality and giving themselves the only handheld electronic device on the market that can't handle music/video. Nintendo is probably at least somewhat concerned about competing with iPod; they can't do that without the media capabilities.

Not adding to the debate between the three of you, but the DSi has a SD card slot too. I just haven't had a reason to use it yet lol.

I have a DSi XL, and no it can not play MP3s, it can only play ACC format. but not sure how big of a deal that is, from what I heard, Itunes can covert to that format easily.

There's no connectivity cable for the DSi, but there are plenty of USB thumbdrives to place SD cards into if you want to move files around. I got one from Radio Shack made by Digital Concepts, it was like eight bucks.. I just used iTunes to convert from MP3 to ACC after that..

Since i don't have an iPod, I do make use of DSi for a portable music player. its not too shabby, actually. Glad they're keeping that feature with 3DS.

The light source is in the Mo-cap ball. It's pretty much exactly what the Wii uses...only instead of swinging the camera around(Wii-motes have IR cameras in them), you're swinging the light around. Which means it will have better tracking since the light source will always be in range of the camera unless you specifically obscure it. As anyone who has the Wii knows, as soon as you point the controller away from the sensor bar, it loses it's 1:1 tracking accuracy and instead relies solely on the gyros and accelerometers, but with the Move, no matter what direction you point the thing...unless you turn around and block it with your body...it's always going to keep that Mo-cap accuracy.

And of the games showed for Move, only like 2 used body movements in any way that I saw. Everything else was directly Mo-cap controlled. And they were both kiddy party games so really, no one cares about them.

I specifically said that the Mo-cap balls would help Move, but it would still rely on light for tracking things like legs. Kinetic, on the other hand, is totally reliant on external light sources, securing its failure.

You basically need a big, empty, well-lit living room for Kinect to do what it needs to do.

And yeah, Sony didn't really show anything that was a departure from Wii that would really show real improvements made by Move. All the technological improvements in the world don't mean damn thing if the software is conceptually the same.

Here's the problem Move faces - no matter the tech, its still going to be viewed as another Wiimote and it does not "come with" the system, but is really an additional expense to the system. One Wii mote with Motion Plus, the nunchuk and both Wii Sports come with the Wii at no additional cost now..

The reason so much shovelware has failed on the Wii is because some of it is just a repeat of Wii Sports. Even though games come out faster these days, this is like trying to clone Super Mario Bros. for the NES.

Why would I want something that already came with the system for free? NES came with Super Mario Bros., Nintendo didn't need to sell people on it.Same thing with Wii Sports. And both games turned out to be rather popular because they were free games.

So here we have Sony charging $100 to PS3 to sell Move and its Wii sports game. This up against the Wii which will cost exactly half and include two Wii Sports games and a Wii Motion Plus controller at $200.

I don't think Move will exactly fail, as Sony does a good job on improving tech, but its not as dramatic of an improvment as they'd like to have us believe because the ideas are just not there. Moves adoption rate is going to be a lot slower, especially if they intend to sell this to the core fans.

Basically, Move is no Dual Shock. Its an improvement on the Wiimote, but the effect just isn't as dramatic as Dual Shock's improvements were.

the IR sensor has nothing to do with 1:1 motion tracking, all that's for is the pointer device, and you would be point at the screen anyway. I don't like the fact that is relies on the camera myself, it was just Sony wanting to sell another one of their accessories that no one was really buying.

Also I laugh at them saying its all innovative, but one of the launch titles is a rail shooter.... really? As much as Sony wants to deny it, the move is nothing but a Wiimote copy. But I will give them this, if it works like it is suppose to, then it might catch on, same goes for MS's Kenect.

From what I've read on the internets, Kinect really has only two redeeming factors.

First, it's no longer named "Natal." I think they may have been trying to pull a reverse-Nintendo and go from a weird-sounding name to an okay-sounding one.

Second, you are the Star Wars Kid.

Natal makes me think of women birthing babies, which makes me think of a vagina.

Move makes me think of a vibrator.

Its not like I have a dirty mind here, its just that all of the big three either make references to genitalia somehow or the damn thing just looks like a dildo. At least the Wiimote thing had that Elmer Fudd quality and it caught on, thus being able to dodge further phallic references.

Thank god the rubber grip for Wiimotes cradle the unit, there would be no end to the jokes if we had to slide it on there like a condom. Then again, there's the male/female plug interaction for the nunchuk and classic controller.

Nintendo, MS and Sony all have filthy minds.
