Are there also privacy issues involved? I'm not really familiar with this new feature.

Well unless you're somehow dumb enough to leave personal info in your street pass info, not really.

More or less StreetPass is a fancy way of saying "tag mode."

Instead of making tag mode game-specific, as DS and PSP games have, StreetPass files are saved to your SD card. From there, you put your 3DS in standby mode and the pedometer and StreetPass feature is active.

This allows you to exchange certain game data. This is how people can get weapons from other players in Samurai Warriors, have figurine battles in SSFIV and share different breeds of dog or cat from Nintendogs. Additionally, the other person's Mii can join your Mii plaza to swap puzzle pieces needed to complete a picture or save your Mii in a mini-RPG called "Find Mii."

So far I've gotten about one StreetPass hit a day, but I imagine that in the months to come they'll become all the more common as I live in the city. Probably not so great if you live in the sticks, though to Japan "middle of nowhere" still seems to be a foreign concept.

Quite literally. Japanese people have a problem with a lack of cell phone reception in subway tunnels and on top of mountains. There are more rural areas in Japan, so I'm sure there's a couple lonely gamers here, but even then they'll probably be coming within proximity of other 3DS, even if it's the same five or six all the time.

Hell, I mean, look at Persona 4. All of that bitching Yosuke does about being in the middle of nowhere, while Inaba is quite probably about the same as any random American city, save for the ones that get put on maps? Not far from the truth.

Well, even with fictitious examples, Inaba wasn't really that far away from another city. They do just casually train-hop to other places after school if they want to.

I mean, in America you go down through Texas, Arizona, Nevada and lots of places in the upper mid-west and there's a whooooooole lotta nothing.

And then maybe a tiny town that exists pretty much so people have a place to stop and get gas. I live on the southern east coast, we're pretty dense with cities even if some of them are "rural" or" hick" towns. Most of them are surrounding some larger city.

All the same, StreetPass is a notable improvement since you're not required to keep that particular game on you to tag other players and things like the tags and Game Coins are incentive enough to bring that 3DS with you as you go outside and do other things. I already feel like I've wasted part of a day if I don't go out and get 1,000 steps for 10 coins, though I think Nintendo could stand to raise the cap to 20 coins. 1000 steps still isn't quite an big amount of walking.

Soooo... Are the 3DS games region locked or no? My Japanese DS games play fine on my NA 3DS... So yeah.

Also, Samurai Chronicles is bad ass... Except the 3D effects are horribly bad I don't even bother with it.

Yeah, I've found unless I'm riding the horse or CG cutscenes that the 3D doesn't really come out all that well in Samurai Warriors. Word is Spotpass is supposed to sneak in a DLC "Gaiden" level for SWC soon, so be sure to enable the Spotpass feature in game to get it. The 3DS will seek it out in sleep mode when its made available, so you don't even have to do much to download it.

DS games are DS games, there's no region lock of those, 3DS games are the one facing region locks. Additionally, it seems like DSiWare games won't be playable from the DS card slot, just internal memory, but that was the case for the DSi and since DSiWare exists alongside 3DSWare and people still have DSis I guess that's just the way it pans out.

3DSWare games will be playable from the SD card.

Nintendo just released their sales numbers - as in units actually sold, not shipped.

3.61 million sold with about 9.3 million games sold for it. I figure that's mostly Nintendogs, Street Fighter, Pilotwings and Samurai Warriors, maybe some Ridge Racer which also turned out to be rather decent.

They shipped about 4 million for launch.
