All I'm seeing is a widescreen DS. Aside from the 3D gimmick, what is this handheld actually going to bring to the table that warrants a whole new system?

You get epic graphics that haven't been seen since 2004.

I don't want those. I want my goofy 16-bit sprites.

Don't worry, I hear the first game set for release is "The NEW new Super Mario Bros. World: Galaxy Edition 3: The Lost RPG 16-bit: 3-D"

            It's got what you want.

Pretty sure its just another Paper Mario game right now

The reasons to care are third party support went from good to AMAZING on the portable front.

                "

                3 D S

                - Nintendo issued a health warning for the stereoscopic 3D graphics on the 3DS, those who are under the age of six should not use the device in 3D mode, as it may harm their eyesight and their eye muscles are not fully formed. 3D viewing may also cause quicker eye fatigue than standard screen viewing. In addition, Nintendo suggests that all players should take a break every 30 minutes to avoid eye fatigue; if physical condition worsens or if you become ill, stop playing at once. The 3DS will have parental control system which allows parents to turn off the 3D function. This is a precaution to prevent possible lawsuits in future."

ya stereoscopic 3D is overrated. it just adds more warning screens before starting to play.

On the subject of Super Mario RPG, I'd totally buy it if they remade it.

                    Its on VC right now.

To remake it. You'd need Sakaguchi and Uematsu to work with Square-Enix.

I want The Last Story more, thanks.

I like Super Mario RPG, but it is deeply overrated, to the point its almost disrespectful to the many great Mario RPGs we've gotten since then. Every time a new Paper Mario or Mario and Luigi are announced, someone has to start whacking off to Super Mario RPG and talk how awesome it was, how they should remake it or make a sequel.

Again, good game. Memorable even, but the times have changed, I don't think you're going to see a Mario RPG go out of the Nintendo camp again, especially considering they can get Intelliegent Sytems to do one quite capably (they've only be doing Fire Emblem forever).

Atlus revealed what the Devil Survivor game is today in Famitsu.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclock is the name

                      http://www.siliconera.com/2011/01/04...-nintendo-3ds/

More or less, its an enhanced port/special edition of Devil Survivor, now with voice overs, an 8th day scenario, more demons to collect and fuse, some new gameplay and better resolution. Since the top screen was where the original game put up the scan data for demons, the top screen for this version actually won't be doing much of anything in 3D, just the same old stuff.

Kinda weird, but it was a 2D isometric sprite game before, so there wasn't much to be gained from using 3D for this. Plus the game was pretty successful as far as DS games go and Atlus isn't a stranger to doing special editions of their games from time to time, such as Persona 3 FES, Persona 3 Portable and SMT: Nocturne Maniacs (or if you're from the US, just SMT: Nocturne, in EU SMT Nocturne: Lucifer's Call).

Naturally, people were quick to rush to judgment over this - particularly those that never played it.

Good game, though, and it was a success for Atlus before in all territories it got released in. People will be quick to judge this as a quick, easy cash-in port - particularly those that have only read about and never played it - but most fans seem happy about it.

It just sort of kills my plans to replay the original. What with the four other endings I need to do. Now there's an eighth day with probably even more beastly bosses and more endings. I would have also preferred a sequel, but I guess there's only so many times you can have demons invade the center of Tokyo and have the SDF quarantine a portion of the city and the people inside over it.

What am I saying? Demons always invade Tokyo in SMT. Shibuya always gets overrun with them, actually.

Just you wait. There will be an action RPG cross-over with Nintendo characters and SE characters a la Kingdom Hearts.

                          Already happened.

It just wasn't an RPG, it was a 3-on-3 basketball game.

Wasn't too shabby either, because now its damn hard to find.

SE is also making Mario Sports Mix, which will be released in February. Will White Mage, Black Mage, Ninja, Cactuar and Moogle be playable again? Who knows? What I do know is lava pits on basketball courts and FF Bombs strewn about was pretty crazy.

Its the SE making a Mario RPG thing I question. You see, that game did what it did because Sakaguchi and Miyamoto teamed up on the gameplay. Miyamoto actually still had a great deal of influence on the project. The way Mario navigated the field, initiated combat or got jumped for an advantage/disadvatage - those were his ideas, along with maintaining the sort of world and the sorts of abilities Mario games are known for. And some of those ideas went on to influence the RPG genre as far as field encounters go.

People keep saying that Nintendo and SE should do a sequel, but they say it without realizing it was Miyamoto and Sakaguchi together that really made the game work. SE does not have Sakaguchi and after fourFF installments without Sakaguchi's touch, his absence its deeply felt.

Perhaps not so much for games like FFX-2 or FFXII, but most certainly for FFXIII on every level and in terms of production, FFXIV. I'm not totally without faith in SE's people, clearly they've still got some real talent in Nomura, Hajime and good ol' Yuji Hori.

If fact if you got Nintendo, SE, Level 5 and Hori together on a Mario RPG sequel, then you may really have something there. That's a blend that could work for me.

                              He's right:

Still one space left open there, though, probably another character announced before release.

I may actually get this. I know I won't play it much, but I did like Mario Hoops 3-on-3. Only thing I don't like about these kinds of games is that they continue to allow Waluigi to exist. Seriously, has he been in any non-sports based game yet? Even the Miis get more action than that guy.

I've been pouring over the Nintendo World 2011 showed so far. You're really just better going to Youtube and watching them all than me posting them. So far, the show on the whole as been rather refreshingly out-of-character for Nintendo. Lots of third party developers getting the spotlight in interviews, comedians, live music and the like.

They showed off Mii Studio, the AR card, Kid Icarus, DoA Dimensions, Kid Icarus and more.

Mii Studio is similar to an idea MS has also had with Kinect, which was just shown off at CES. Like the Kinect avatar creation, you can snap a picture and the system will make an approximation of a Mii based on it. Funny stuff

I haven't even seen Miyamoto, Iwata or Sakamoto in anything yet, seems they're staying behind the scenes for the most part. Well, until they show off Zelda: OOT 3DS, i guess. I'm sure they'll have something on Skyward Sword later, too, but this seems mostly about 3DS right now.

Kid Icarus is looking really good, part rail-shooter, part 3D shooter, part action game. Pit seems to get a lot of weapons and projectile weapons. I could have sworn I saw him sporting Gradius-style options in the rail shooter portion. Also, he seems to get a gun at some point. Looks weird on an angel, but it is mostly a shooter from what I've seen.
