yeah it runs DS games, too. This time they have the slot for DS carts right next to the 3DS card slots. Doubtful that they'll ever take out DS compatibility.

Website GetNews.jp has the results of a poll that asked over 1,000 folks whether they think the Nintendo 3DS is expensive or cheap. Their responses:

• Slightly Expensive: 32.2 percent (323 replies)
• Expensive: 28.3 percent (284 replies)
• Too Expensive: 19.2 percent (192 replies)
• Reasonable: 16.4 percent (164 replies)
• Slightly Inexpensive: 2 percent (20 replies)
• Inexpensive: 0.9 percent (9 replies)

Note: Out of those who were polled, six did not respond to the question.

Out of those polled, comments included things like "I'm hesitant to buy it on launch day" or "That's not the price-tag of a child's toy." Others said the machine's specs did not seem to merit the price tag, while others believed that the pricing was fair.

Late last month, Kotaku asked its readers if the upcoming handheld was too expensive.

The Nintendo 3DS will go on sale in Japan next February. It will not have the price-tag of a child's toy."

I forgot to ask. Is the 3D only compatible with 3DS games or is it in the hardware itself - meaning even DS games get the 3D effect?

No DS games will not be able to be seen in 3D. Only special 3D DS cartridges will.

Saw this and while its not directly tied to the 3DS, it did make me think of something and chuckle. DS sales are down because all the geeks are waiting for the 3DS!! lol

"In the six months leading up to September 30, 2009, Nintendo sold 11.7 million DS units worldwide. In the six months leading up to September 30, 2010, that figure has dropped by nearly half, to 6.69 million.

It's to be expected, of course. Not only is the DS getting a little long in the tooth as it approaches its sixth birthday, but with the 3DS now at the forefront of people's attention, interest in a soon-to-be-outdated handheld was always going to wane.

Wii sales were also down, from 5.75 million at the same time last year to to 4.97 million over the past six months.

These declines, coupled with a big slip in the value of the Yen, means Nintendo's net income was down 33.7% over the same time last year, while its operating income was down 48%."

heh I can claim some help in those falling numbers, I have talked atleast 20 people at my store alone to wait for the 3DS instead of getting a DSi or DSi XL

I might not like the #D concept very much, but I love how I can use it to make people wet themselves ;p

3DS Shopping Channel revealed - Destructoid.com

Details about the online store were revealed today.

Totally new and more intuitive interface, demos for newer games, video clips and so one, More or less, it merges the Nintendo Channel and Wii Shop channel like it always should have, but far less archaic.

Let's hope they can fix the Wii Shop to match.

The reveal didn't say much about what outside of GB would be available, but I'm hoping they're going to have GBA games at launch as well.

Caught this little snippet off Magic Box:

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that the company is considering bringing NDS games to North America and Europe, that were never released outside Japan, in order to stabilize the NDS user base while transitioning to 3DS. Some of the candidates include Soma Bringer, Blood of Bahamut, 7th Dragon and Fire Emblem II.

Not a rumor, Iwata discussed this in a recent interview while discussing the interest in 3DS.

Soma Bringer is Monolith Soft's first Nintendo DS game, Xenoblade being the project they had for the Wii. It was a Chrono Trigger-esque RPG with Secret of Mana/Diablo-ish multiplayer. You can work on the same screen or split up from your friends.

Blood of Bahamut was an SE original, I heard it wasn't that good, though.

7th Dragon is a hotly demanded RPG, but something Sega has been extremely reluctant to bring over. And naturally, Fire Emblem II is a remake of said game, and Nintendo wouldn't bring it over for some reason.

Let's hope they add Last Window, the Hotel Dusk sequel, to the list. Last Window got JP and EU releases, but still nothing on an NA release.

Told you Nintendo was out of their minds with that pricing point...It costs more than the Wii for crying out loud! Oh there's certain to be a swarm of early adopters, but I'm not even considering that thing until they drop it to $200 or less.

Jesus christ, 300 dollars? That's... too much. I'm barely willing to pay 300 to replace my xbox (which I haven't done yet, grrrr).

I would rather buy a new intake for my car as well as a gps unit for my stereo deck with that money.

Video games are expensive.

Yes, let's bitch about old news like its going to do something. They know people want it, they know people will pay it and they have the line-up to back it up. And honestly, if you think that's steep I assure you PSP2 will be steeper than that.

I got five months to save $300, it won't be much of a feat.

Also, we only know the equivalent to yen in dollars. Could be different in the US and I'm sure there will be some other incentives thrown in.
