My gut instinct still says they might pull a December release. There's no reason to have a formal announcement late September if its not going to come out til like March in the US. They have some games and for it and they want to sneak it out ASAP. They still have well over a year of content lined up for the original DS line, too, so it doesn't look like DS is losing support just yet..

A great Star Fox 64 remake would probably convince me of buying this thing.

What a coincidence, then, there is a Starfox 64 update coming to 3DS.

Dunno if its going to be a launch game, though.

I just want it to be good enough to convince me about buying the thing.


But it's kinda sad the only games that interest me from newer Nintendo consoles are remakes and compilations of older NES and SNES games. Or in the the Cube's case the RE remake.

Well 3DS will probably have plenty of those, seems its generally the first thing devs do when testing the waters on a new handheld hardware is recycle old stuff. Some people act like that's a terrible thing, but I think its the most reasonable place to start. Nintendo's got some submarine game for it, so that's new, and the Kid Icarus game is a full-on reboot of the franchise, so it might as well be a new IP.

Have a feeling Zelda will be there at launch. Makes me wonder why I bothered with the Virtual Console version, think I'll just stick to replaying Majora's Mask for now so I don't find myself bored with revisiting OOT.

The promise of MGS3, a new Kingdom Hearts, Etrian Odyssey IV, a new SMT game, a Persona game (Persona 4 Portable plz) and another Devil Survivor game seal the deal for me. Not to mention its inevitable Final Fantasy V and VI remakes will happen on it. Soon as 3DS specs were out it seemed like SE cared about remaking them again, stating previously that there was too much content in both for a DS version.

Hopefully if they ever make a P4 portable for the 3DS they will actually port it with full cutscenes instead of stills though. <_<

If the recent hardware leaks are to be believed, then the carts have a 1.5 gig capacity, though I think I also remember hearing 2.5 from another leak. Who can say? I can live with the cuts Persona 3 Portable made, since all you're missing is characters pantomiming in 3D areas not used for combat and the extremely space anime cutscenes which really adds nothing to the experience and may as well be done with 2D stills as well.

Handheld games are almost always going to be a generation or two behind consoles, so the art of making a handheld game is being willing to work within the limitations you're saddled with. Its something console/PC developers seemed to have forgotten.

I didn't like the lack of 3D running around on P3P, but got used to it kinda fast.

However the cutscenes were missed every single time. Heck they should've just gone with NES-like cutscenes, it would've probably worked better.
And it just didn't feel the same, and I'm not talking just about PSP limitations there.


The game itself was pretty good though, and the P4-ish combat was nice. Just not as good as the PS2 version.

Well, seems a lot of DS gams tend to end up really strapped for space. So much that Etrian Odyssey III only has room to spare for one save slot. Same thing with Dragon Quest IX. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey eeked out two slots.

According to an interview, Persona 4 actually maxed out the space on the DVD it used. Dunno what capacity P4's DVD was, but they had to cut text in the game, going right down to KBs just to get it all one DVD.

And alot of that space was audio and the anime cuscenes. Were they to make a handheld version (which they claim they still have no plans for), I'd imagine they'd cut those anime scenes again.

"According to Bild, the Nintendo 3DS will go on sale in Japan on November 11. It will then "probably" go on sale in Europe in spring 2011 and is priced at €200. Release info. for North America is not mentioned.

Bild also lists launch titles for the Nintendo 3DS: Mario Kart 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle."

This is the same release date leaked in Japan too. Of course this is a leak so take it for what it is. I would imagine that Spring 2011 sounds about right for the US if Japan gets it Nov. 11.

I fear that the 3D part of the new gadget will do nothing more than give me headaches. I hope I'm wrong.

Our daughter has expressed interest in getting a DS. DH & I were shopping for games yesterday (each of us has a DS) 'cause we're going on vacation soon. I know DD will be interested in some of the games. Hubby mentioned DD's desire for a DS -- I suggested that he get an XL & let her have his DS... so now we have a brand new XL in the house.

That thing is big! (that's what she said)

I cosidered posting the info, but Blid is a German tabloid, so yeah its probably more of a bid for attention than anything else. I sincerely doubt Nintendo would do something as silly as set a date for an announcement of a release date if it were not going to hit the US before Christmas or January at the latest. Not to mention releasing Pokemon B/W in the US at the same time as 3DS would be a bit weird.

Why would it be weird? The 3DS will play DS games, right? Releasing a new pokemon and the system around the same time is pretty darn smart.

I doubt it because of the timeframe. It's nearly the beginning of Oct and no hype yet? That's what has me doubting the validity of it. Well we'll see soon because they'll have to announce soon in order to take pre-orders.

Well its weird in that same way the only good RPG to play on the PS2 for the first year was FFIX. And Okamiden hits around that time as well.

DS is going to have some life left in it, considering there's still a number of games I want for it that have and will fall into next year, like Shining Destiny, but even so, I think it would be a kick in the pants to the consumer if they pull this 3DS out past Christmas, because you know DS is going to sell like crazy if its not there.

Its almost become a ritual now, Oh, you got a DS Lite for Christmas? Here's DSi, coming in March!

The way things are looking, Nintendo might do that less with 3DS, though I wouldn't put the 3DS XL past them.
