Re: Watch the fanboys cry: Goldeneye remake looking like a real thing

I have been told thaat the Daniel Craig Bond is a lot more like the Bond described in the books than any of the previous ones. I cannot personally attest to this having never read any of the books. I say this here in order to ask the question to you guys. Have any of you read the books and seen the movies have an opinion on this?

As much as I liked Q, John Cleese couldn't replace Desmond Llewelyn in my mind.

When you see Cleese, you think Monty Python right away, so i think it was just good to move away from the character when they started doing the Craig Bond.

Q in my mind was this sweet, foppish old man and small as a part as his tended to be, it was endearing.

      Cleese couldn't replace him.

While this is true, you can't really fault Cleese though. (Not saying you are, it's just the way things go) Llewelyn was one of those actors whom no matter who replaced him, they would just not be as good.

At least they had the decency to have the character as R instead of Q.

Should we really be surprised you think this?

Mal, you're not exactly Mr. Objectivity when it comes to anything Activision. Actually, you're not objective about much of anything, just Activision especially. You probably keep a voodoo doll of Bobby Kotick.

At the same time, we know you'd get your hands on it anyway because hypocrisy regarding Activision is what you do best.

No, it looks like a bad PS2 game. It's not even Goldeneye, the settings are different, they took Brosnan out...

Just fucking put Goldeneye on XBLA and PSN.

                      Yeeeeeeah.

How many times does this one have to be explained.

                      Nintendo owns the rights.
                      Owns the rights
Owns the rights to Goldeneye 64.

                      Not Rare, not Activision.

MGM wants to promote Daniel Craig
Daniel Craig permitted the use of his likeness since he's still signed on as Bond.
Brosnan's contract as Bond is up, he did not permit the use of his likeness for another outing as Bond.
Brosnan and Craig, as human beings, have a right and a say about using their likeness in a product.

MGM gave Activision the rights to make the contemporary Bond games.
They did not give Activision the rights to Bond games made by Nintendo or EA.

                      Rare is with Microsoft.
When they left Nintendo, they only left with IPs created by Rare.
That's Banjo Kazooie, Killer Instinct,Conker, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini - i.e. all the Rare IPs.
They could not take things owned by Nintendo with them, but could keep thier own IPs, which was a better deal than they had with Tradewest and part of their contract with Nintendo.
Nintendo owns Goldeneye, Donkey Kong and Starfox - also any and all assets pertaining to them.

Before being acquired by Nintendo, Rare was with Tradewest.
And TradeWest owns Battletoads, an IP created by Rare.
                      Tradewest was acquired by Midway.
Thus, Midway owns the rights to Battletoads.

And finally, Perfect Dark IS Xbox Live Arcade's Goldeneye. It even has reskinned multiplayer levels from Goldeneye in it. They're just not Goldeneye-themed anymore. So its kind of already there. If I had a 360, I'd totally get it. I actually like Perfect Dark more than Goldeneye.

I just don't like consoles built to do the RROD thing. if MS would get with the times and make a console without a disc tray, I'd have one. Apparently a non-HD console is capable of doing that.

360 is the only console that still uses them.

They're kind of what leads to that whole Disc Read Error/Red Ring of Death thing, what with the lack of shock protection at and all.

Oh sure, you say "Well, you're not suppose to move the console, herp derp, herp derp."

Well, guess what. Shit happens. Just because you're told not to do something doesn't excuse leaving flaws in your design.

I tripped over the keyboard connected to my Wii last week. It fell a couple feet and guess what?

The game kept running like nothing had happened.

360 or 360 Lite would have destroyed the disc and had a DRE. If you run with a disc tray, you are very clearly not considering shock protection. And every other disc-based device imaginable today accounts for that. There is just no good excuse not to adopt shock protection.

Now, lets factor in MS's Kinect into all of this.

They want you to move and jump around while playing their motion tracking games. Can you see where this is going?

Awesome. I am looking forward to getting my hands on this.

A little disappointed that Brosnan was replaced, but I suppose it can't be helped, and it's not like you spend a whole lot of time looking at the character in a FPS. Would be interesting if he ended up as a selectable character model for multiplayer, though.

I'm not a real big fan of FPS on a console, but the Wiimote + nunchuk is the closest thing to the real FPS experience that any console can provide, so I can accept it.
