Ooops: Activision's GoldenEye Wii and DS remake leaked - Destructoid

Activision might be evil and all, but a Golden Classic Controller Pro and revisioning the story with Craig's Bond is interesting to me.

If this is legit, that means Nintendo still holds the rights to the Goldeneye license and game code Rare had to leave with them. Since rights to Bond otherwise are with Activision, this could only come to DS and Wii no matter how much people crybitch about it.

But even so, 360 does have a Goldeneye - its called Perfect Dark, which was put on XBL Arcade back in March and complete with the multiplayer levels FROM Goldeneye, which were just reskinned as places to fit Perfect Dark, so 360 has a version, just not PS3, which will have to sit and deal with it.

Nintendo's also been more lenient about matchmaking of late, letting Capcom get around friend codes for Monster Hunter Tri, its possible that could happen here as well if Nintendo's throwing in other incentives.

We'll know if its real for sure pretty soon, E3 is not far off.

    *sigh*
GoldenEye was a solid multiplayer game, but I don't think we'll see the lightning strike twice. I fully expect the remake to be royally shafted by having to work around the Wii controller.

If I remember right it only had 4-5 of the multiplayer levels from Goldeneye. If it would've had Archives I would've been one happy camper.

I'd rather play with the gamecube controller if i can.

        You seem to be confused.

There is an option to use the Classic Controller Pro, but I don't see why you'd want to give up the superior option in exchange for the inferior one. Dual analog has nothing on motion controls or mouse and keyboard in FPS.

Hell, I WISH they had updated Sin and Punishment for the Wiimote, its really hard to go back to playing shooters like they were on the N64. When Sin and Punishment 2 is out later this month, I don't think I'll ever look back at the original.

          It's Activision...

This will fail/disappoint massively. I is disappoint. Also lol @ Wii FPS games. For whatever reason, Metroid Prime 3 is like the only one that actually hands well. Lord knows I gave Red Steel, COD 4 and others a fair try but I just couldn't aim for crap and it's a pain on the wrists.

A 'modernised' story, and Daniel Craig as Bond? Doesn't sound like Goldeneye to me.

In what world was Goldeneye a good movie and Brosnan a good Bond? He only ever looked the part, but as the character he was only marginally better than Timothy Dalton, which is to say - not that good.

Its not like they can just slap Brosnan on it anyway. First off they need his permission and secondly they'd need MGM's. Brosnan likes Craig and apparently directing musical films in which he can embarass himself in. Maybe he doesn't want to be seen as Bond for the rest of his life.

Maybe its just the world likes the bad, trashy Bond movies and I like the dark, cerebral ones that are closer to the books. Brosnan played another Bond in a long line of movies that parody the books. I like my brooding, vengeful, flawed Craig Bond better than the smooth, perfect, deus ex machina Brosnan Bond.

I understand what you are saying Kitten but most of the Bond movies had a Bronson style Bond. It's why people got their noses bent out of shape when Craig got the job. I think he did a bang up job and I like how they went back to the style of the older movies. But the slick, very English, ladies man Bond is what people thought of when a Bond movie was mentioned.

And they will never make a better Bond game than the N64 one!

Re: Watch the fanboys cry: Goldeneye remake looking like a real thing

Well, in terms of single player and story, they actually can do better and likely will. The actual story of the game was like most other licensed games of its time and didn't stick to script, but rather, was almost an entirely different story save for a mission here and there. It was actually more of a Craig Bond kind of action than a Brosnan Bond.

Its important to keep in mind that this has probably be under wraps for a loooong time and Nintendo is keeping watch over this game as it is one of their most acclaimed games. Like other properties, they're not going to leave this totally to Activision. Its just not how Nintendo does things, if it was, they wouldn't have gotten involved with Metroid Prime when they gave it to Retro, F-Zero when they gave it to Sega or Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes when it was given to Silicon Knights.

Nintendo always gets involved to make sure the feel of a franchise is preserved. They say this is a remake and I feel that's mostly what this will be. Additionally, I think Nintendo knows how Rare was better than the current Rare does.Rare kinda ceased being what they were toward the end of Perfect Dark's release, the Stamper Brothers just could not keep people on that team.

If they approach Multiplayer like it was on the N64, it will fail and fail horribly. That style has not aged well. They should keep the split-screen multiplayer, though, and I think they will just to rub that in the competition's face and add online multiplayer.

Part of what made Goldeneye what it was was getting people together to play, as was the case with the original Halo. Halo lost its way when that diminished. Goldeneye risks that same if it becomes about selling one copy per player. Wii is all about getting people around the console and that's something Goldeneye should keep.

Also, Nintendo let Capcom break the rules with Monster Hunter Tri's online multiplayer, so who's to say they wouldn't do the same for Activision?

Oh sorry, I thought we were talking about the game and not the movie(s).

I enjoyed Goldeneye more than the other Brosnan Bond movies, but in that I fault the scriptwriters etc because I think Brosnan is actually a decent actor.

As for Craig, I'm actually all for him. I liked Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace more than Die Another Day and The World Is Not Enough, and although my brother classifies him as 'wooden' I think that's he done a good job playing a more serious/professional Agent.

I think the only Bronson Bond I liked was Tomorrow Never Dies, mostly because if you're going to do the shlocky Bond movie, the a villain played by Johnathan Pryce is one of the best choices you could make. That or if they could have gotten someone like Alan Rickman. You can't just hate the villain in those movies, you have to love and hate him or Bond isn't really isn't someone you can appreciate.

I also liked the choice of Michelle Yeoh because she wasn't as much of a Bond girl cliche while Teri Hatcher still totally was.

One complaint I have about all Bonds of the recent years is the intro themes get some amazing singers, but the compositions make them sound horrible. I thought Alicia Keys could do no wrong til you got her on the theme of Quantum of Solace. I thought someone was killing a cat in that intro and slamming it against a piano.

Well, I didn't see Mamma Mia - I dunno seeing musicals as movies just seems wrong to me - but when I heard they let Brosnan sing in it, I knew it couldn't be a good thing.

And I was wrong, he didn't direct that one, but I dunno if he's directing material, either.

Well, if there was a game to remake to "just get them to shut up about it" I think this is a good pick. At least it will throw people off the "Remake FFVII or Ocarina of Time" bullshit for a bit.

You get my thanks, if merely for this. I lol'd.

Edit: I've been meaning to sometime or another locate the books. As I understand it, they're a bit more on the thriller side of things than what the movies (the ones that are based on the books, anyway) present.

I was referring to the whole "In which" construction to avoid the ending-with-a-preposition-curse, and then ending with a (now, also redundant) preposition anyway.
