Sega considering its own online pass system - Destructoid

See what you started, EA and Sony?

So I wonder, once all publishers have killed used game sales across the board, how do they expect the consumer - which they've take away options from - to buy their $60 games if places like Gamestop stop offering trade-in credit?

I was sort of OK with the idea when it only pertained to online games, but now its spreading beyond that scope to shitty DRMs like the one Ubi Soft has or pulling more content from games, which was already a pathetic trend EA particpates in.

I mean, yeah, they're your IPs, guys, but who pays in to those IPs, which happen to put food on the table and a roof over your head. That would be the people you're seeking to punish and biting the hand that feeds was a bad idea the last time I checked.

Oh well, its not like Sega is really Sega anymore.

When was the last time Sega, EA, or Ubisoft produced shit worth buying anyway?

Well, there was Henry Hatsworth... and the Wii version or the recent PoP, but Sega? But Nintendo's stubborn online structure is actually very much designed against what they intend to do.

Well, there are games that Sega publishes by other third parties that I enjoy, but games actually by Sega?

Nothing really, Monster Hunter has destroyed any interest I had left in Phantasy Star Portable 2.

If Platinum Games gets big enough to break out and publish/localize for themselves - as NIS and Level 5 have - then Sega really has nothing to brag about. Kinda sad their owner doesn't even publish through them, but Aksys Games instead.

Valkyria Chronicles, Bad Company 2, Assassin's Creed 2.

And as Kazuo Hirai has stated several times, all the current PSN services will remain free. They're going to charge for this new "premium service", which will be shown at this year's E3 (June 15-17).

As for EA's thing, that's just retarded and bogus.

            Napoleon (PC game)
            Resonance of Fate
            Infinite Space
            Yakuza series
Valkyria Chronicles.....and thats just Sega. Just because you don't like the games Feba or don't have the system to even try them out, doesn't mean that they aren't putting out a good game now and again.

As for the topic at hand, ya this is the way of the future unfortunately. As long as we tow the line, they'll keep screwing us over.

Possibly have a valid point with this one, but I wouldn't exactly call it recent, and they've screwed up the US releases badly enough that I don't consider that a success. Not to mention, you got your mobsters in my Shenmue.

I'll take it though...even if it has mobsters. I have to say that the Shenmue series was in my top 10 favorite series so I jumped at the Yakuza series. Still want another Shenmue....Sega....please....don't make an old lady cry....

Thing is, they're losing money because they charge too much for games now - their idea of solution is to keep pushing them away from from buying new and punish them for buying used? People do not like being treated like a guilty party and that's exactly how these publishers want to treat us as consumers. They can go to hell for all I care, I don't need their games if that's how we're to be treated, I don't need them no matter how good they might be.

There's a guy that owns a game store not to far from where I live and I've gotten word from people that work under him that he doesn't like me hanging around. And since he doesn't have the stones to say that to my face and ask me to come back, I don't buy anything from his store. Its OK if you don't like me, but don't be a wimp about it. I'm not that intimidating.

So I'll just turn up every now and then if I'm in the area, browse and not buy shit. He's not going to tell me to leave, but he doesn't like me being around. Its my way of dropping by the say "fuck you." Instead, I make my purchases at the other location he used to own. And he knows it.

Makes the fucker's cueball turn bright red.

Re: Sega to dig its own grave with EA, Ubi Soft and other publishers

When they were releasing $59.99 games, they said it was because of higher development costs, but now that they've gotten enough people to buy that line, they keep the $59.99 price tag even while some publishers are actually able to release games at $39.99.

At least Nintendo tries to earn that $59.99 price tag when it happens and they do it with pack-ins, even in some of the third-party releases, at that.

Gamers want a value and publisers are not giving it to them as often as they should, instead they cut content and try to market its inclusion as "free DLC" as value, which is phony as hell and an old ploy that I wasn't buying ten years ago. Oh, yeah sure, a few kilobytes of data unlocks these big quests with new skins and voice over - I wasn't born yesterday, man.

I hated it when XBL would use it as a means of killing LAN parties so they could sell more copies. Now you can't even find a LAN game on consoles anymore and split-screen multiplayer is treated like some relic from a golden age when Wii still brings tbose games out.

They'd probably cut Player 2 out of fighting games if they thought they could get away with it.

Capcom had the balls to charge $5 to unlock Multiplayer VS Mode in RE 5.... It was already on the fucking disc, but you had to pay $5 for it. Not cool.

The sad part? People paid it.

Like I said, as long as people tow the line, they'll keep screwing us. More people need to wake up and show them that they can't just steamroll us. I've been quite choosey with the games I buy now, part from necessity but mostly because I'm sick and tired of getting screwed. I also speak out on forums and in a local newsletter to help educate people about these tactics in the gaming community.

Don't feel like being too proactive? A simple thing to do then is to rent games or wait and buy used. Yes they are working on fixing that but there are plenty of games that you can still do it with, for now.

I rent most games either because I know I'll beat it fast and then be done with it, or if I hate the developer/publisher (hi2u Activision) because that way they don't get my money, the store does. I hope Kotick chokes on a horse cock.

Could you possibly be more in love with Nintendo? Nintendo games don't come with any more bonuses than games developed anywhere else, and split-screen isn't any less present on other consoles. Damn.
