  • ModNation Racers

Does anybody have this game? I started looking into it about two weeks ago on accident, and then recently realized how creative and cool looking the game looks.

ModNation Racers: Mario, Iron Man, Jesus, Krusty, and More

The Jesus one made me lol for some reason.

Yah, my friend got it this weekend and we tried it out. Some people are crazy creative with the mods. And the racing isn't half bad either.

It's on my 'to buy' list but I haven't gotten it yet. Was going to rent it for the party this weekend but they were all out in all the BB's nearby so it must be pretty good. lol

Funny things is..... this game along with 3D Dot Heroes, and (now that someone explained to me what Little Big Planet was about, instead of just saying "its cool buy it" I know have 3 reasons I want a PS3, and might even be able to get one very soon.

oh and why is that? because as far as I am concerned all 3 games are customizable, and that means tones of play time for me, and on top of that, they all look fun as hell.

So please, do tell me why "my reasons suck".

People who hate 3D Dot Game Heroes fail at life, its a proven fact.

From what I've read about the game the creative tools are amazing, but as far as the racing goes its been said its no Mario Kart. Even Sonic All-Stars Racing seems to have fetched higher scores.

Also, loading screens - ModNation seems to have a ton of them. What is the magic that Insomniac and Naughty dog do with loading times for PS3 and why aren't the actual internal teams for Sony privy to it?

I'm not hating on it, it just isn't that awesome. Little Big Planet flat out sucked, but that's probably due more to it being a launch title than anything else. ModNation Racers might allow you to customize your characters to a great extent, but so what?

There are tons of games out there, some exclusive, that make for better reasons to purchase a PS3.

Well of course I want to play some of the exclusives for PS3, like Infomous, but the first three titles I mentioned are what started to peak my interest. Oh an on the loading time for Modnation, I was told it was because if all the custom stuff, the game has to load it all the time so the times suck *shrugs*

...no it didn't. It's easily one of the greatest games on the PS3 and of this generation. And unlike every other offline title, this game only gets better as time goes on and more stuff is added to it. Hell, online create mode alone is retardely fun, even if you're not using it for any productive means.

You can also create your own tracks and cars and load them online and play other people's tracks and use their cars. It, much like LBP, is a game with infinite replayability. Even if you don't make anything yourself, the fact you can still use and race people on tracks made by other players means there's always going to be something new popping up every day, and all of this additional content is completely free to access.

Both this and 3d Heros are on my 'to buy list', but after putting aside a buttload of cash for some other things coming out this month, including the new Transformers game, it'll be a while before I actually get either of them. Though they both look like a lot of fun, and I could certainly use more local MP games in my library.

I suggest you get MGS4 if you like the series, Demon's Souls if you like your games soul-crushingly hard, Uncharted 1/2 for lots of pretty and great gun fights and Valkyria Chronicles because it's totally worth it. Infamous is also a good game, and worth at least two play-throughs (going through it as a good guy and a bad guy really do make it feel like different games)

Infinite replayability? A pair of dice have infinite rerollability, but why don't you see people doing that all the time? I bet urine has infinite redrinkability, and I sure as hell don't see anybody doing that. There are tons of things in life you can do over and over, but don't for various reasons.

                      Point INVALIDATED.

LittleBigPlanet is the same thing over and over, so if you've played one map you've played them all. It was limited in pretty much everything it could do, so every user generated map came out pretty much the same, with few exceptions. Most maps were made simply to attain trophies and nothing more. Shit, I got a few trophies just for testing out a few maps I had made, myself. Even the co-op sucked.

I think ModNation Racers looks pretty cool, the track editing looks really nice. Can anyone comment on the online play? I hear it's pretty good (especially being able to share tracks you've made).

Ok so you don't like LBP, that's fine, if I get it I will only be spending like.... $15 or so on a used copy after my discounts, I call that cheap fun *shrugs*

I would not say that LBP, MNR, and 3DDH all have Infinite replayability, but the replay value is high.

...so you have no idea what you're talking about. Gotcha.

Btw, the working pinball machines played a lot differently from the side-scrolling shooters which played a lot differently from the film noir-esque story stages which played a lot differently from the ancient temple puzzle fests which played a lot differently from the twitch reflexes obstacle courses which played a lot different from the slowly plodding tank levels which played a lot different from the multiple survival challenges etc etc ect. There are some great and unique levels out there in the LBP world, and while many trophy stages do exist, you can ignore them completely and still find countless enjoyable and different levels and concepts you can play with.

p.s. some trophies are specifically designed to be won in create mode...it's to get people to play around in create mode.

Next thing you know you'll be saying every stage in Mario is exactly the same, GoW is just killing things over and over and every FPS ever plays exactly the same no exceptions at all.

Last time I checked they do things the Metroid Way-- they let you play the loading screens. Instead of just cutting to black and saying "LOADING", they hide it behind a cutscene, or some door opening up, or some spaceship doing twirls. It's less grating, but in the end it's still eating up the same amount of time. The only reason to bother with it is if it keeps from jarring your experience-- which it definitely does in Rachet and Clank, not so much in Hey Guys Let's Race Around These Conveniently Phallic Hills 2010
