    I don't understand why they would even bother to take it out in the first place though. Wouldn't that just take more work? Someone just get bored one day in the office?

      Probably to make it harder for hackers to break the PS3's hypervisor security. At this point, the PS3 is the only console on the market that's immune to piracy, and I'm sure Sony would like it to stay that way for as long as possible.

        Doesn't the 3.30 firmware EULA say that Sony can now force an update on your PS3 without your consent, so simply turning it on now with a network connection active could result in you having the latest firmware with no option to decline the update?
