That's not really true. They do different things, but one can easily take the lighter users away from the other-- and it's the light users Nintendo has to worry about. Same way that internet news isn't the same as a paper or a news magazine, but it's definitely cutting into their bottom lines. Nintendo doesn't want to be chasing Apple the way Sony is chasing them-- "Oh, they're going to use that platform, but when they REALLY want to play games..." hasn't worked for the PSP vs. DS or the PS3 vs. the Wii.

You do know that it has a software D-Pad and buttons, right?

I think DS tends to cater a bit stronger group than people that want to play Solitaire, Mahjong, Minesweeper or Bejeweled. You don't even need an iPhone to play these.

And you've just shown why Nintendo always wins.

iPad, iPhone and iTouch will need new interations within a few years, and I'm not talking just remodeling like Nintendo does, either. They're going to require big technological improvements as the years go forward and those improvements will be costly. Starting out cheap is not the Apple way, never has been, that's why their growth in the market has been so slow.

Nintendo never operates that way and its why they've beaten all comers. Sony thinks like Apple thinks. Sony thought they could just come in and conquer with better technology. Everyone thinks that works and yet it never does.

Beating PSP isn't really an impressive feat when it tends to defeat itself. Every angle of PSP has been mismanaged by Sony. The first party support comes and goes too noticeably, there was no emphasis on making it affordable, ever. If fact, PSPGo was more expensive. Sony doesn't give developers incentives to sell their downloadable iPhone-esque games cheaply on the platform. And lets not forget UMD and downloadable movies or MP3 playback - Sony got stomped there.

I don't really see Apple getting more of the market than they already have, they're going to have to make considerations for gaming a bit more strongly than they have in the past and Steve Jobs is rather stubborn in advancing the gaming side of things. Macs are just now getting into serious gaming, well, for what games will be compatible from Steam. Dunno if there will be that many all things considered.

Serving raw fish doesn't make it sushi. There's a difference between a physical D-Pad and buttons and software ones.

Ipad/Iphone could have a Bluetooth controller made for it, like that clam thingy? only way I could see it becoming a game system, and until it has a controller, I would never consider it for gaming -.-

Nothing is guaranteed, but there was a patent filed by Apple earlier this year for a "cradle" to put the iPhone in that had a D-pad and buttons. I believe the patent was a description only, so the following picture is just an artist's rendition.

"All of the biggest technological inventions created by man - the airplane, the automobile, the computer - says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness." - Mark Kennedy
