    Destructoid - Rumor: 8-player Castlevania: Harmony of Despair revealed



    Normally I would be excited about another 2D Castlevania, especially a crossover piece.

    But you know what? I'm TIRED of games getting co-op and multi-player forced on them at the expense of just making a good old-fashioned single-player game. Castlevania does not need to be a multiplayer experience.

    Just thinking about what they're going to need to do to make this game work ensures it cannot be the "metroidvania" style it is already being hyped to be. Think about it: Metroid had to become more like Quake to make Metroid Prime Hunters work. This would have to become more like Contra or Metal Slug to work.

    Soma has the tactical soul system and access to old and modern weapons
    Shanoa has the glyph system.
    Alucard uses magic, old weapons, turns into familiars and is hurt by water.
    Johnathan is all muscle, Charlotte is all subweapons.

    And if Soma is there - who are the fighting against? Dracula?

    I would hope so, but there's a problem with that. Soma IS Dracula. That means Shanoa should be out to kill him, not work with him.

    Its just all kinds of stupid. You see, when you do a crossover, you need to do it when fans have questions about how characters would interact. How Batman and how Spiderman would work together is an interesting question. How Wolverine and Green Lantern would team up is a good question?

    No one asks these questions about Castlevania. Maybe Alucard, the other characters are years apart from each other.

      hahaha wtf? 8 players... could actually be pretty fun pick up and play kinda game. It def won't be like the castevania's we're used to, but the lols out of it could be epic.

        They could take it in a much more metroid-y path and make the co-op have some intricate puzzles.

            I think that would be ok if it were 2 players tops, they have the potential for that because they did it with Portrait of Ruin in a way. Johnathan and Charlotte needed to work together.

            But six is just getting a bit too convoluted.

              I don't know, FFXI has some things like that. Thinking specifically of Horutoto, Quicksand Caves, to a lesser extent Banishing Gates. Or you could have areas where the party needs to break into three groups-- two people to work the puzzle, two people protect the people working switches, and two people to go through the gate that opens up and pull the final switch on the other side that keeps it open long enough for the other four to get through the gate. Not really convoluted.

                    Looks like it could have been a hoax, both Kotaku and Dtoid pulled the story from the frontpage.

                    Hmm.

                    It did strike me they'd go for "Harmony" in a title again. "Harmony of Dissonance" was a GBA Castlevania,

                        That artwork is f'ing awesome.

                        And YAY for more Alucard. BBQ, I trust you're aware of the series' creator (forget his name lol ><) is apparently batshit crazy I trust? I thought I saw something about him not being able to partake in the creation of new one PS3/360.

                        Soma, Shanoa & Alucard are all awesome at least. The only character missing in there is Richter IMO.

                          Mal, it was a rumor post and now Kotaku and Dtoid took it down. Seems like a fake.

                          I was kinda iffy when I saw the art. It looked close to Ayami Kojima's work, but not exactly with the same flair. Text on the subtitle looks photoshopped in, as does "Press Start." What Castlevania game has used Kojima's art on the start screen?
