I like your ideas. Friend of mine told me he once saw a dude using an Assist Weavile in Shoddy Battle (Smogon's battle simulator for those that don't know.) Hilarity ensued.

P.S. Thanks for bringing up Hidden Power, that move is critical to many Pokemon.

You want to produce multiple competitive Pokemon? These are the hurdles you need to jump through before you breed:
      1) You need to get at least one Pokemon with the ability Synchronize for each Nature you plan on giving your bred Pokemon. Usually implies mass-breeding Abra or Xatu using a Pokemon with the Flame Body or Magma Armor ability to hatch eggs faster.
      2) You need to catch at least one Ditto of each nature you plan on using with those Synchronize Pokemon. (If you have a Pokemon with Synchronize on top of your party (even if it was KO'd before the battle) wild encounters have a 50% chance of having the same Nature as the Synchronize Pokemon.)
      3) Grind Battle Tower/Battle Frontier for the Power items (Power Anklet, Power Band, etc.) In DP, you needed a total 96 points. This is a pain in the ass in itself because Battle Tower trainers are cheating, Double Team-spamming dicks, and you'll need powerful bred Pokemon for this.

For the actual breeding, you'll have to:
      1) Produce a male of the species you plan on training, that knows the TM/Egg/Move Tutor moves you want your Pokemon to have. This may require a breeding chain or catching a Smeargle and teaching it the required attacks.
      2) Breed the male with a Ditto of X desired Nature holding an Everstone, so that the baby will have the male's moves and the Ditto's nature. If the male has an IV you wish to pass on to the baby, equip it with the corresponding Power item to ensure that IV is passed on.
      3) Continue breeding the females (holding Everstone) that had X desired nature with the males (holding the Power items) until you achieve an offspring with the desired Ability, Nature, and IVs.

Since GameFreaks doesn't want to throw us a bone, every time you want to check a Pokemon's IVs you will have to:
      1) Find a friend with free time.
      2) Get on Wifi.
      3) Throw your Pokemon into a Level 100 battle.
      4) Record its Level 100 stats and run them through an IV calculator.

Once the baby's done, to EV train it you'll want to:
      1) Find the best trainers/Pokemon to fight to give the baby the EVs it needs.
      2) Equip the baby with EXP Share and use a strong Pokemon to fight until the baby is strong enough to fight alone. This'll get you 1-3 points per fight.
      3) Once the baby levels up you can send it out with a Power item to rack up an extra 4 EVs per fight.

Since you need 508 EVs to max out your baby, in the best case scenario, getting an average of 6 EVs per fight you would need to fight 85 times (in reality you'll have to EXP share at first, leading to more than 85 fights.) Repeat the breeding and EV training for each new Pokemon you want to make. Swallow sadness when you realize your Skarmory would've been much better off with Brave Bird instead of Toxic and you have to breed a new one, or that your team has a glaring weakness to Stealth Rock and now you'll have to breed a Rapid Spin user, or that you could've distributed your baby's EVs better. Swallow some extra sadness after you and your buddies are tired of fighting each other with the same teams over and over again and it's time to breed some more.

Finally: Acquire extra Leftovers/Life Orbs if you don't have enough to go around for the team you wanted to make.

This is setting aside the fact that you don't have the luxury of breeding legendaries. If you liked your Jirachi a lot and wanted to try a physical-based Jirachi instead of a special attack-based Jirachi, you'd be completely out of luck. Hell, some people won't even have a Jirachi to work with in the first place, since it's an Event Pokemon. If this sounds like fun to you, please ignore this method of producing non-cheating Pokemon quickly, which is available to all legit players that have a wireless network at home. Breeding and EV training is a horrible grind and all it does is alienate people by demanding a huge time commitment from any one that wants to play beyond the casual level. If you have no interest in competitive battling then this exploit doesn't affect you; feel free to buy HG/SS and enjoy the game in all its single player glory.
I do see your point...but is that not part of the game, to work hard in order to get the team you want, so when you use them to fight, you can say "yeah these are my babies"

I remember having that feeling when I played Red/Blue all those years ago, sneaking my good old fat game boy to school, and fighting people during lunch..... those where the days......

I have a soft spot for the Pokemon that served me well during story mode, when I don't have to do a bunch of convoluted things to raise them, sure. But for multiplayer, it's just waaaaaay too much work with no flexibility.

I still get attached to some of the Pokemon I hack, when they exceed my expectations or I just plain like them (e.g. I have a thing for Shaymin.) When you can try new things at your leisure, sometimes you'll come upon Pokemon or strategies that'll surprise you. It also helps that I give them nicknames.

I do wish Pokemon would get a little bit of SMT's fusion system in it

Basically, the World of Pokemon needs a mad scientist, the ones they have are too kind-hearted and humane. I mean, Pokemon are stored as data, that means they can be copied. Why do we need Dittos when we have computers?

Well Platinum did get a genuinely evil villain in Cyrus (For those who don't know imagine if Gendo Ikari was a nihilist mad scientist instead of just a love crazed mad scientist) though to be fair Platinum has been the only Pokemon game with an actual plot other than "Gotta catch em all!"

I guess you have a point, I was just soured by all the hacking back when I played, and I refused to do it myself -.-

but I do want to try Gold and silver, as back in the day, it was the only Pokemon I did not beat

that and most of the other workers at my part time at Gamestop paly it, so its not like I would not have anyone to do stuff with.

I lost all my little pokemon when I had to get rid of my DS and its games, but my Newphew is getting a second DS (one for here, he has one at his fathers) so when he is not here I can use it, and I will get Heart gold ;p

and I will have to have a way to get my favorite pokemon to Gold (if its possible) Lopunny ^.^

Well to be honest I only hack for competative battles or to do mess around with a ROM to see what can be done with it.

Actually this is why I like the breeding aspect of the game. You're basically hatching and raising them yourself and raising them from babies.

                    Guide updated. Changelist:
                    * Corrected description for Secret ID. Trainer ID and Secret ID can only have values between 0 and 65535, so "make up any 5-digit number" wasn't entirely correct.
                    * Corrected descriptions for Egg Hatched At and Met At Place: HG/SS doesn't keep track of locations, Pokemon originating from HG/SS always have location 3002 (Faraway Place.)
                    * Added new sections explaining the finer details of creating legal non-hatched Pokemon.
It's pretty much complete now, should have everything you need to make totally legit Pokemon.
and I will have to have a way to get my favorite pokemon to Gold (if its possible) Lopunny ^.^
It's available in HeartGold (Route 25) according to Serebii.net

P.S. Firewind, you wanna battle one of these days?

I might consider some of this for the ones I know I cannot get, like Shaymin or Reddigigas (whatever the hell its called), but I'm gonna wait and see what all isn't accessible to me before I make any requests.

Most of the pokemon are available between the D/P/Plat and HG/SS versions, I just need to find some lists that say what's easy to get and what's not. I'm chasing down some legendaries in SS right now. I think I have to catch the first two before Sucanine shows.

I'm also breeding various starters, though I don't think I have any of the Ruby/Sapphire starters yet and seem to be missing one from each version save for Platinum.

The world will fear my Piplup army.

This might help as a starting point.
Pokmon Heart Gold & Soul Silver - Unobtainable Pokmon
                        Pokmon Platinum - Missing Pokmon
                        Pokmon Diamond/Pearl - Unobtainable Pokmon
Pokmon Heart Gold & Soul Silver - Hoenn & Sinnoh Pokmon

Looks like you've got a bit of a catch-22 going on with Regigigas. The normal way to get it is to have Regirock, Registeel and Regice, but to catch those 3 in Platinum you need the movie event Regigigas. Only other way to get the Regi trio as far as I know is Pal Parking them from Ru/Sa/Em.

That Hoenn and Sinnoh bit is cute, I was wondering what the hell the point to that radio was for, its for attracting those pokemon types on Wednesdays and Thursday by playing the March music.

Seems to be rare encounters, though.

I recall the Pokemon March station in the original, but I'm not sure if it actually had a use beyond changing the BGM.

Also, contrary to what the instructions said, it seems the GTS exploit will NOT prevent you from sending blatantly cheating Pokemon to yourself (sent myself an Azelf with non-matching PID and IV and more than 510 EVs to test.) Edited that part out of the OP. Pokemon Battle Revolution won't let you get away with exceeding the 510 EV cap though. Not sure if it checks for legal PID/IV pairs.

EDIT: Found out why Pokesav is a bitch when trying to edit a blank Pokemon Name or OT field. It's full of spaces, so you have to delete all of them with backspace before filling those fields. Downloading and opening a .PKM file isn't necessary at all. Edited the guide to reflect this.

Well I finally got around to tinkering with it and this thing has me frustrated. I'm reasonably confident that I've followed the instructions here properly, but every time I run the legality checker on my test Pokemon it crashes. I can't tell if that's an issue with the legality checker or if I just buggered up my editing in new and frustrating ways.

Either way I'm hesitant to proceed with sending this thing to my game.
Armando, would you be willing to take a look at the file and help me figure out where I went wrong?
