This past Saturday, my phat PS3 gave me the red blinking light of death within 5 seconds of starting. This indicates it is either a broken fan, a broken motherboard, or a broken hard drive. I tried the 3 quick fixes:
1) Wait overnight with the PS3 unplugged. In the morning, plug it in and try to turn it on.
2) Remove the HDD, turn on the PS3, turn off the PS3, insert the HDD, and turn on PS3.
3) Press and hold the On/Off button to reset the console.
None of them worked. This means it is either the motherboard or one of the fans. I called Sony and was quoted $200 +3-6 weeks to get it fixed. Since mine has full backwards compatibility, I chose to get it fixed. The kicker is MW2 is stuck in the console. This means I wont have FFXI for 3-6weeks and will probably cause me to quit (for the third time) because I will find a replacement game to play while I am waiting for it to return.
In the mean time, I bought a slim PS3 for the bedroom so the Mrs. can watch BluRay movies...(That is my story and I am sticking to it!!!)
