      1- Online games pretty much always close eventually. Any online content should be assumed to be temporary.
      2- Pretty sure you made it up, you dirty attention seeking liar
      3- Nobody played tetra master
      4- 3+1: Tetra Master required a subscription (one content ID, just like any other POL title); subscription games die eventually

      I'm talking about if you bought an offline game which promised a set of features, and then suddenly decided to lock out one of them if you wanted to continue using any portion of the online content; that's pretty much what we're dealing with here. Imagine a game that disabled the character creator for people that played online-- not just when they're playing online matches, but forever that feature would be locked out on their copy of the game if they ever wanted to play an online match.

        Tetra Master was horrible. Mostly because I sucked at it.

          There are guides online to do proxy server so it bypasses update checks. I haven't installed the update myself either. Unfortunately, the easiest way to do it is to have a PC on along with your PS3 to bypass the version check updates.

              Dak don't put words in my mouth. I've been following this story around the 'net out of interest. Alot of people have said that they are talking to lawyers about possible class action lawsuits. Somthing should pop up soon if it hasn't already.

              In a related story Geohot says he's making custom firmware because of this. My comment is that I think sony just opened pandora's box and will now have to play a rather expensive cat and mouse game with that hacker and others...

                    The discount was also given under a European law that I don't believe has a counterpart in the US. I also think Amazon could have fought it, but decided it wasn't worth the effort.

                      Amazon could easily resell it anyway, at a profit if it's a BC enabled model. The guy more or less got trade in price for it.

                        It is, but hopefully if consumers push Amazon to keep doing this, Amazon will push against Sony to do something about it. And it might be better if Amazon's fighting Sony than if it's just people pissing around on BBS'-- at the very list, Amazon will probably expect Sony to pay them back in some way. Sony would be very very unwise to piss off one of the largest retailers of video games in at least the US, and I'd imagine other countries. That's pretty much exactly what caused the death of SEGA (Google Saturnday)

                            It wasn't a refund, it was a rebate for the loss in functionality. He still has his PS3.

                              Oh, well then that's fairly lame. Did the guy even use Linux on his PS3? If not then he's just doing it for the money, not because he lost something he actually used.

                                Not necessarily. My house has a speaker system wired throughout the house, so you can listen to music in various rooms. I never use it. I'd still be pretty goddamn pissed if someone broke in and stole it.

                                I'd have to imagine anyone pissed off enough to bother getting a refund would be someone that used it; although people after this might not be.
