See where it says "R10"? That rating scale is exponential, and it goes from 1 to 10. R10 means that fewer than 10-20 copies of the game are known to exist. The average collector is lucky to ever find one R10 in the wild.

And there are always the nutty "every game with box and instructions" collectors who will pay absurd prices for the last few games. The NES shrinkwrap collectors are at least as bad, if not worse. Back in the day most people threw away their boxes and instructions, making those rarer in general. The exception is overprinted "new old stock" games, which just didn't happen with NES.

And holy crap, that box is in fucking beautiful condition. Even the Tuesday Morning price sticker is awesome... I didn't know TM had been around that long. Too bad the sticker on the cartridge is mottled. but a lot of labels from the Atari era did that, especially Activision cartridges.

No box and instructions is a no-buy for me.

Basically says to me "I treated this game like crap, but I still think its worth something." Oithout the case and instructions, its not worth shit to me.

It was one thing back when we had cartridges to get rid of the box, catridges still had the slip cases, but disc-based games and smaller media its unforgivable. I'll never work at Gamestop because I would punch the majority of people trying to do trade-in. Trading in Demons' Souls without the case and instructions - that should get you dragged out into the street and shot. Repeatedly. In the spleen.

What I find most surprising is how often instructions are lost from snap-case games, particularly SMS and Genesis. I can partly understand for games that were rentals, but it's surprising how often they got lost.

Also sometimes they strip the super bargain games at Gamestop, throw away the inserts, and just sell the disk in a crappy yellow slipcover.

Whenever I see empty cases and instructions at the local Goodwill salvage thrift store, I always snag them. Now that they've gone to selling most stuff by the pound, I'll take PC games, keep the discs and paper inserts, and leave the generic jewel cases behind.

Is the new DS able to use a router that uses WPA encryption? It's a real pain in the rear to have to keep changing my router settings (and kicking off the entire family in the process) just to check the GTS on Pokemon or something.

Poting this again because it got ignored. Genuine question I would like answered.

If it didn't work on the DSi then it highly unlikely that it would work on the DSi XL because they run on the exact same firmware. You can still pair up but do to the fact that you have to do it in Advanced Settings, it won't work in games. We run WPA 2 and it doesn't work in game but we can still use the store and the browser.

I wonder if anyone is splicing their internet connection at home to be able to run WEP and WPA.

Something like

DSL/Cable router > basic switch > then plug in a WEP router and a WPA router

Easiest way is to get a G access point and you can set up a 2nd wireless network with a different SSID. It's a little more complicated to set up a 2nd router as an access point.

Ya know, I think I remember seeing something like that when setting up my new router this year. I need to go back and research that. It's annoying to not be able to connect with my DS.

Well the DS store working but the DS games not working on WPA2 is because Nintendo have no fucking clue as to how to make a game work online.

I thought of doing similar but I'm not at all keen on having any connection to my router having WEP encryption. I might as well just leave the whole thing unsecured, turn off all my firewalls and run IE6 if I'm going to do that . Thanks for the advice though.

Stupid second question: Do the Wi-Fi dongles you can get for the DS still work if you plug it into a laptop with a wireless connection if the wireless if WPA or will I just have to use my PC for it?

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. A laptop and PC are the same thing, but if you're trying to differentiate between a desktop that has a wired ethernet connection and a laptop with a wireless connection, there should be no difference when it comes to the Wi-Fi dongle. You should be able to use it with either.

Theoretically it should. The wifi dongle is creating your laptop as an access point.

Thanks. I don't really want to have to buy one since they cost the equivalent of $50+ in the UK but if I can get one for cheap it's nice knowing that I won't have to mess with my router settings if I use it to make my laptop into an access point.
