Square Enix CEO: We're 'going to explore the possibility' of Final Fantasy VII remake -- Joystiq

So far, Square Enix has said that a Final Fantasy VII remake would be "unrealistic," "tough to do in HD" and "not happening." But hold out hope, die-hards, because during an interview at FFXIII's launch party, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada finally admitted that the company is "going to explore the possibility" of revisiting the classic RPG. He didn't completely reverse the long-held position, as he says Square Enix has to decide "whether or not we're going to do it, if we're going to do it, and the platform," but he did finally admit that there have been a lot of fan requests to see the game in a new form, so he's giving it some solid thought.

Of course, the huge success of the game's re-release on PSN probably didn't hurt either. If Square's convinced a remake will sell (and people will play through Gaia yet again, possibly even on yet another platform), we'll probably see it somewhere sooner or later.

And as an added bonus, maybe they'll fire Kitase and get a proper P.R. guy. (Damn I miss Marcus )

Doesn't need a remake until FFV and FFVI get theirs first.

Respect the fanbase, not the fanboys.

    That is all.

If only there were irony to be found. You're the one that would argue that it should be remade because it is "teh popularz" and "would sell millions." This is all the argument you'd have, by the way, and you have nothing to validate the latter claim. PSN version is ten bucks. Unless serious issues with the story are addressed, its not worth $60 to me.

FF, FFII, FFIII and FFIV have all had remakes, why jump from FFIV to FFVII? You can't say FFVI was a "less popular" installment than the four I just mentioned, its undisputed that it is one of the most popular installments, so you must concede it is just as worthy of a remake.

As such, why jump ahead? Its not like Kitase and others haven't heard requests for remakes of FFV and FFVI, particularly from the Nintendo crowd since FFIII and FFIV got remade for DS.

FFXIII itself needs a remake already.

Huge if. And even if they think it will sell, there's no reason to believe they won't decide it's not worth gambling on. Easy to have a game that could sell well backfire and cost the company millions.

We don't need to hide it. Nobody will testify against us.

Singer should be added as a role. It would be so kewl to have Serah and Snow and Lightning sing at enemies
until they explode! Maybe button combinations for custom songs! =^^=

U MAD? Normally I skip over your posts in the first place so that was my fault for not paying attention to who said it. Anyways I didn't read it, but the spoilers tag is there for a reason so use it.

I would love to see a remake of FFVII, It's the game that revealed how amazing a story could be when you felt like you were a part of it. It will always hold the 1st place tier for me because of it's timing and because of the affect it had on the way I viewed video games as a whole. I love all the FF's but 7 will always be the one that for me, as a NA, opened the door to viewing all other games as more than just a "Game" and more of an "experience".

I imagine their apprehension would stem from the flood gates that re-making ANY Final Fantasy game would entail. You re-make one, why not re-make them all, and then alot of your resources aren't focused on providing new experiences, but on re-packaging the old experiences, how ever much worth it they are. If they did it, It would have to be a very very special thing. Because as much as I'd love to see Kefka done with the Crystal Engine, I'd love it more to finally defeat Sephiroth in 1080p.

Aren't they ALWAYS exploring the possibility of a remake? That really doesn't mean anything lol.

And if anything, they should update FFVI to 1080p. That would be the hotness.
Burning questions are burning: Is jenova_9 really a girl and is she cute? Does she talk like that in real life?

                            Burning.

If you can't make story choices, and you can't, you're not part of the experience.

His Kingdom Hearts version would still be harder.
