Just to clarify (since the edit didn't go through ....) the max level for any Role is 5, but the Crystarium goes to stage 10 after beating the final boss.

Ok, so I turned watching this into a drinking game: Final Fantasy 13 Story Video Walkthrough (English Version) | Final Fantasy XIII Ultima

Every time it sounds like someone's getting it on take a shot. Now I'm pissed.
This game makes me angry. SE needs to stop dicking around and just make pretentious animes and stop pretending to make games. Jesus Christ this game makes me angry.

I don't think I can finish this game. Taking only the fighting into consideration, it's easily one of the worst games I've ever played. It may not be the very worst, but it's in the top ten.

I have to skip most fights because they're simply unbeatable. The only real difference between the fights I can win and the fights I can't win is in how many seconds it takes for the enemies to focus on and defeat my party leader. Some enemies only need one hit to kill her, some attack continuously, and others attack in groups. The worst enemies are the ones that attack continuously in groups and either one-shot her or nearly one-shot her.

Most of the time these enemies don't require a sentinel to defeat. I'm quite capable of defeating them with a commando, ravager, and medic. The real problem is that pretty much any and all enemies can kill my party leader on a whim. Some of them have an ability that can one-shot her, others fight in groups and overwhelm her before the medic can heal her. It's all so completely random that I find myself having to retry trash fights over and over. When it comes to bosses, most of the time it isn't even fair. I just happened upon a dead end, at one point, and out pops a boss guarding a treasure chest. Oh, he swings twice within the first two second and everybody is dead? Awesome. I'm totally used to that. A sentinel wouldn't even help at that point, because while he or she may still be alive, everybody else will have died. Long boss fights are the worst, because I know at some point towards the end it's probably going to one-shot me and ruin the entire thing.

Fuck, I really don't know if I want to continue with this game.

Where are you at, Dak? If its the mob in chapter 13 that I'm thinking of, yeah it sucks. I stayed in diversity most oft the time but switched to Discretion (medic/medic/commando) if I had to. Also helped to start with bully or whichever you have for syn and sab for a quick haste and maybe a debuff or two. My best suggestion would be to start with a deceptisol and just kill him quick. If it is he mob I'm thinking of, you only have to fight it twice with an option for a third.

I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm talking about almost every enemy in the game.

The enemy that made me put the controller down for the day was the one that spams Levinbolt. Well, he only spams it for me, because while looking up a guide just to fucking find him I found a video of somebody defeating him. They had a set-up just like mine, and the bastard only used Levinbolt ONCE. Once is already enough to kill off a single character if that's where all the bolts go, but I'm getting it back to back. It's fucking nonsense.

There was another mission in Oerba, where you've got to kill a dozen of those frogs. Who the fuck are they kidding with this shit? The battle begins, and it's a toss-up of who's going to die first. They attack in such rapid succession that no medic could possibly keep up with them, not with the dinky AI they have. The only reason I beat them is because, on my umpteenth try, I somehow got a preemptive strike. A few Ruingas and they were all down for the count.

And don't get my started on preemptive strikes. What the hell is the point if most enemies spot you as soon as you walk into their zones? When I go take a few hours out of my day to set up a perfect preemptive strike, I usually don't even get it. I can sneak up and touch them without a single exclamation point, but once we're in the battle they don't give me the preemptive strike.

Earlier, I was fighting King Behemoths. They're nothing special, a medic has more than enough time to heal any damage he does while he's on all fours, and it's nearly the same while he's standing up. He has one special ability while standing up that only deals about half a health bar's worth of damage to my party members, but when he hits the party leader with it it's an instant kill. I really don't understand why the damage would suddenly increase like that. But, like I said, this is just one example of the retardedness this game puts me through.

I just beat a boss that requires you to defeat it while it's staggered or else it automatically kills everybody. It took me a handful of tries before I decided I'd just commando the bastard down to half health before pulling out ravagers to stagger him. You can't even let the chain gauge reset, because it'll always return to where it left off. What a pain in the ass.

Does SE really think that these constantly changing rules and limitations are actually fun? It doesn't get more frustrating than this. SE is basically the DICE of RPGs.

I gave up at the end of chapter 9, then started playing Resonance of Fate. Then my PS3 got the yellow light of death and won't turn on anymore. Woo!

After playing for awhile I was like "Crap! The mobs are True Sight and True Hearing too!"

Boss I extremely hated so far was the Venusaur that keeps changing its immunities chapter 5 I think? After getting him down to like 3% after dying repeatedly like 5x on that fight, the Bastard like two-shotted my party leader. So the 6th time I buffed with everything, EVERYTHING! Went into the fight with Haste, Veil, Shell, Protect, Bravery, and Faith all active...Beat him in 3 mins and the clear time on him was 10...

Well I just beat the game and the ending is EPIC. You're right, it is more of a movie than a game, but then ending did not dissapoint the movie aspect. The last few fights of the game were longer, but easy to take down. It was fun. Now I'm going back to Gran Pulse to do some missions.

Dak. Hmmm... Not sure what wrong with your fights. Have you already beaten the game and you are fighting marks back on gran pulse? All of the fights pre chapter 13 I was able to beat pretty easily rav x 2 (light and hope) and fang on com. When hp gets low, switch hope to med, if things get real bad, fang to sent, and light and hope to med. It's almost impossible to die with that last setup fang (sent) and light and hope on med x 2. At chapter 13 i started starting off with hope on light - rav, fang - com, and hope - syn, just so we could all get haste, then switch back to rav x 2 and com. Did you only level up the main 3 jobs, or did you try and build out the crystarium of the off jobs? The off jobs cost alot more crystarium points, and if you go off the main 3, you are pretty much wasting points. All-in-all, all the fights I found pretty easy, save a few that took some time to get the proper setup and timing down.

Dak -- I think I started to have trouble like you were at about the point you're at. I found a few things that helped:

                      1. Be ok with avoiding enemies if they're too difficult. I avoided many of the enemies close to the end of the game and I had absolutely no trouble beating it.

                      2. Be ok with changing your paradigms and/or party members. I know it's annoying to set up a whole new deck of paradigms every time you change characters but I found that most of my problems were solved when I switched to Light/Hope/Fang.

                      3. Play Light/Hope/Fang. Enough said.

No really, there are just the most powerful characters and provide the most powerful paradigm configurations.

They naturally have every main job between the 3 of them. Hope is also one of two best healers in the game. Only one as good as him is Vanille, but then you're without a synergist. Plus by chapter 12, I believe, Hope gets Haste which is just sick. Haste alone makes most difficult fights pretty easy, and easier fights into a cakewalk. If you're pissed now, you're gonna hate the C'ieth with the sword in Chapter 13. Those guys actually were a pain in the ass. I suppose they would have been easier if I ever would have used Sentinel, but they were pretty tough due to how much front end damage they can do.
