Yeah. I could say the same about FFXI. Except these are games that require you to devote more time to them to really be appreciated. 5 hours is not enough. Try 15 and get back to me.

Of course if you don't want to spend 15 hours just trying to appreciate the game, I don't blame you... but believe me, there's a good game here if you are willing to put the time in.

Anyways, I finally beat the game this weekend, final completion time was 52 hours, but it's looking like my friend's gonna beat it in 40. So I guess completion times can vary by quite a bit. I think my time was higher 'cause I always paused to view the scenery as I went along. Sooooo prettttyyyy. Definitely the best looking game on the PS3 and XBox combined.

ENDING DISCUSSION --SPOILERS---

The only thing that bothered me was the DEUS EX MACHINA at the end. Seriously? They suddenly merge together to create Ragnarok? Whaaat? Where is this explained in the game? Oh and how the heck do they get the power to 'crystalize' the lava? Hrmph. I was hoping something would happen involving the maker coming and screwing everything up or something awesome like that. But no, we get... some sappy "we can save cocoon because we have HOPE AND CHANGE" and then they decide to destroy Orphan even though they know it will destroy the world without even rationalizing it. Yes, it will 'free' humans from fal'Cie rule, but THEY WILL ALL DIE ANYWAYS BECAUSE YOU DO NOT HAVE A PLAN TO SAVE THEM YET. Thank God for deus ex machinas I guess. Maybe I'll expect one next time I'm trying to save the world by killing its power source.

I thought Assassins Creed 2 was far better looking than Uncharted 2. I think people think nature = beauty...beauty can be found in a lot more places than that.

Dak, you'll quickly get leveled up enough to smoke them before they even begin to attempt to summon an add, even when you don't get the preemptive strike.
Cheeze: did you do all the hunting missions, too? B/c I'm at like 48 hours and still on chapter 11. I think I've spent too much time farming random crap here and there.

I think I'm at that point, though they do get a summon off every once in a while. If they summon the dog I'm ok, but that damn bird is dangerous. I'm going to unlock everybody's third ATB and accessory before continuing on with the game.

Agreement with the bolded portion. I take issue with this.

I should not have to invest a fucking entire day of play time just to get the point of beginning to become interested in the game. A game should become interesting/engaging at least within an hour of starting it up. I'm usually generous enough to give a good 8-10 hours to an RPG to decide whether or not it's something I enjoy and want to keep playing, but this is pretty god damn boring and I really don't feel like investing 20 hours of my life into it just for the chance of maybe enjoying it eventually.

I don't like the characters either. Except for Sazh. Sazh is the man.

Nah, he didn't spoil the part where (spoilers) Sazh rides her like a Chocobo. Still surprised they put that in the game.

As I said, I don't blame you. It's a serious design flaw. FFX, FFIX, FFVIII, FFVII... these all had me hooked from the start. It's the more recent games, namely FFXII and FFXIII, which took me longer to really get into. Don't they realize that a game needs to be enticing the entire way through? I bet most newcomers to the series will play it for 2 hours and then return it.

Although I'm forgetting the part in the beginning where Serah turns into crystal. For me, that got me excited to play further. So you can't say the ENTIRE first 5 hours are boring...

(sorry, one more thing) Yes, Sazh is definitely my favorite character. But if you play through the game you'll end up liking a lot of the other characters as well. True, most of them start out being either incredibly annoying or boring, but the story makes them more interesting over time. Heck, even if you do continue to hate the other characters, it's still worth playing through JUST to see what happens in Sazh's part of the story. It's insane.

Nah, I'd say hope is 14ish, and Vanille is somewhere between 14-18. And yeah they can get pretty annoying but I will say that it all comes to a head in the end.

It reminded me alot of the Breakfast club.

Each one of them had their annoying quirks and by the time you fight the big battle, everyone has embraced each others quirks, and they become their strengths. Take Snow for example.

He wants to be this crazy hero to everyone, the guy who saves the day and who everyone looks up too. By the end of the game, The only person he's worried about is Serah. He comes to the realization that you can't always be this "hero" but he can be "a hero", specifically to serah. He comes to terms with the fact that sometimes the good guys don't win. That often times they get shat on, and there's nothing they can change to make that better.
He comes to realize what sets a true hero apart from the next guy is that when it comes down to it, and you don't have anything left but your own resolve, you make that resolve all you need, and get the job done.

Anyway, maybe I read into it too much, But by the end of the game, I actually was really psyched about kicking the last bosses ass.
And hearing Lightning explain why they were doing what they were doing, got me all fucking goose bumpy. Shit was real son.

Ya so far he's the only character I'm remotely interested in. He made me laugh right from the starting cut scene. But ya, I've put a few days worth of play into the game and I'm STILL not that interested. And it hurts...it really does...this is the one and only series that I'm a fanboy of. I used to sit for days in front of the tv eating junk food and not sleeping to finish a new FF game but not this game.
