What are you? 12? I mean hell, even before the game came out it was explained that the people who lived IN Cocoon lived in fear of a Pulse attack. Are you trying to plow through the game? Even I took the time to read some of the datalogs to figure out the lore of the game. Honestly you're the first person I know that's played this game and struggled with that concept.

If you knew what it was you'd have a better response than a big thing with a hole in it.

Because that could be a lot of things.

Spoilerific details for the thick headed

Cocoon was built by Barthandelus as a place to cultivate humans in relative safety, away from the other Fal'Cie and the dangers of Gran Pulse. It is sustained by Orphan, another Fal'Cie who wants nothing more than to bring back Pulse, the "Maker" back to their world by killing millions of humans all at once. To that end he sustains Phoenix, Carbuncle and the other Fal'Cie who take care of the daily needs of humanity. Phoenix provides sunlight, Carbuncle provides food etc. etc. Again this was all set into place because it is believed that when a human dies, their soul opens the doorway to wherever the Maker went when he left the world. Therefor if many souls suddenly came pouring in, surely The Maker would have to take notice.

I didn't know it was that lengthy. None of that was covered in any part of the game I've played so far, and, though it answers a few of my questions, it definitely doesn't answer all of them.

Read the first line of Mal's spoiler and realized it was stuff I hadn't made it to, yet.
I didn't know crap about the game until I bought it, but Cocoon made a fair amount of sense to me because of an episode of The Next Generation. I think they call it a Dicen's sphere or something to that effect. On the show it was a giant metal sphere built around a star. Outside was just metal, but inside surface basically generated gravity and was terraformed in a manner of speaking to accommodate life.
Cocoon isn't built around a star but rather a fal'Cie. And like I said they screwed up when they showed a setting sun or light source or whatever. In a world like that there would be no horizon. (Sorry for that, they did such a good job with it elsewhere in the game, figured they wouldn't have overlooked something like that)

A setting sun could be explained-- mainly, if the light origin goes down to the horizon at some point for whatever reason. It wouldn't be too hard to imagine some kind of artificial method being developed in order to provide a day/night cycle most animals were probably used to, and to some extent required for comfortable life. It probably would've been easier to provide this by way of another massive floating object eclipsing the sun at regular intervals, though.

No, they didn't screw that up. That's what the other Fal'Cie are for. Plus Cocoon has that big crack in it from when it was attacked by Ragnarok in the war of transgression.

..what? The only reason we went to Pulse was to run around aimlessly with nothing gained except for giving Barth-whatever a chance to throw Cocoon into complete chaos? Ummm.... what a letdown. Hopefully the ending is good!

But thats the thing there really shouldn't be a defined horizon in something like that.

They already established that light and warmth comes from Phoenix which is positioned roughly in the center of Cocoon. If you're out on the ocean the horizon you see is from the curve of the Earth. If you're on an ocean in something like Cocoon, then the ocean would curve up and you wouldn't have the distinct horizon thats seen in the game. There could be some random fal'Cie that provides "mood lighting" for sunsets on the ocean or lake or whatever, but I'm failing to understand how you could give the impression of a horizon like that. Its possible I'm overthinking it, and given Bodhum's general proximity to the scar of sorts on Cocoon, it could be Gran Pulse's sun seen through the hole.

Cheeze, how are you coming on weapon upgrades? Whose are you upgrading and what level are they at?

I've stuck to upgrading just Light's stuff and some accessories. I can't remember the name of the sword I'm upgrading but the description goes something like "designed like a pulse weapon." It's only level 20 right now. However I upgraded an Entite accessory that gives +10% to all elemental defence up to its highest level and now it's +25%, which allowed me to survive against a certain ch. 11 boss. Also, I have fully upgraded an accessory related to daze protection.

Basically, I don't upgrade anything unless I find myself dying a lot. Then I find a weapon or accessory that could really help in that particular fight and upgrade it.

But recently I found out that it's sometimes more effective just to switch party members. So if you find a boss is owning you left and right, try a different party combination. I love how this game makes you rely on other characters... unlike some previous ones where everyone's the same.

Caspian, imagine a giant hole in the side of such a sphere. If you lower the light source from the sky and put it through the hole, from some locations it would be visible, but at such a distance that it appears to go under the horizon. Of course, this assumes that the interior surface is large enough that you don't notice the sides curving up-- if we're talking Gundam Colony size, then yeah it would be small enough that it's obviously just a ball of light leaving. I don't know how large you'd need a sphere to work like this-- you'd think it would need to be significantly larger than earth for visibility to level off like that, given how clearly we can see the moon. It probably was a mistake, but it's not totally to imagine something that appears to be a sunset inside a sphere.

It's pure bullcrap TGM. Name one RPG where flagging a single sidequest magically changes the enemies around you into super hard versions that don't give better drops or EXP.
