I don't play many FPS, especially multiplayer. But I've still never seen a game that attempted the whole "capturing bases" concept so well as Tribes. Generators, defensive structures, shields. A lot to do and a lot of objectives, and each one hinders the opposing team somehow.
Granted, even the tribes games did this very simplistically. But it's better than "stand in this outpost for 10 seconds. They can't spawn here anymore!"
