Why do I get the vision of a very evil man steepling his fingers and saying, "Yessss, excellent" after hearing a portion of the backward compatible PS2s have been bricked.

Slashdot Games Story | Calendar Bug Disables Older PlayStation 3 Models

"The Sony PlayStation Network appears to be inaccessible to older ('phat') PS3 units. Players cannot play games that require a connection, even in single-player, offline mode, e.g. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Also, the system date resets to January 1, 2000. Sony is 'looking into it.' Speculation abounds that it is a bug related to 2010 being incorrectly flagged as a leap year. The newer PS3 Slim models seem to be working properly."

Looks like a little OS bug.

I knew something was going to happen to stop me from reaching GR10 in WKC..

I said quote "I should be GR10 by tonight!"Then I thought to myself "Now that I said that, something will happen to stop me from reaching my goal." Then I said.. "Ok, at 6, I will get off, watch my sunday night programming on fox, and get back on." The last time on my PS3 before the thing messed up was 5:50.. 5 minutes after I got 0off! Am I to blame?

Sony: 'Don't use your PS3' until internal clock bug is fixed

                    by Griffin McElroy { Mar 1st 2010 at 12:30PM }

After a night of radio silence, Sony has finally spoken up about the game-crashing issues currently plaguing non-Slim PS3 models. A post on PlayStation Blog has confirmed that the problems are "being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system." The statement puts a loose timeframe on a fix for the issues, saying, "we hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours."

Additionally, the PlayStation Blog post includes a word of warning to PS3 Phat owners: "if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained Trophies, and not being able to restore certain data." (Read Sony's full statement after the break.)

We know you're curious to see what the console apocalypse looks like, but trust us -- it's just not worth it. We'll let you know when it's safe to turn your system back on.

                      Re: PS3 issues...

                      A few things I learned:

                      1) Found a few corrupted themes

                      2) I can play PS3 games with trophies that I have never played/installed (tried with "The Club"). It will keep trying to connect the the PSN everytime you trigger a trophy but it wont kick you off the game .

                      3) PS1 and PS2 games I have work fine.

                      4) Trying to set your clock via internet will trigger the error, but can be set manually.

                      5) All your trophies are not deleted. If you log into your PSN account on a PC, you can see your trophies and your friend list. (hmm... I wonder can you log in via the PS3 internet browser)

                      6) There is a temporary fix but I dont know if it will trigger again if you try to connect to the PSN network. The fix is to crack open your PS3 to remove your battery for a few seconds to reset the PS3. I seen a few blogs about people getting their PS3 to work again by doing this. I am choosing to wait for a permanent Sony fix.

Yea... I am waiting for them to get a fix before actually opening up my system, and possibly fucking it up worse than it is now.

Its not PSN, this has been said many times over. If it was PSN ALL systems would be down, even the offline systems. How the hell would it affect the trophies as well?

I don't think someone hacked PSN at all.. It's just a firmware problem that effected most, not all, PS3 Phats.
