That scene used to make me tear up. Don't know what to say about the preview. It looks very nice of course. Still weird for Samus to be speaking. I wonder where they're taking the story picking up from that point.

Seems to be after Super Metroid but before Fusion. Samus is a fugitive of the Galactic Federation after Fusion. There's tension between Malkovich and Samus in some of the described scenes as well, he didn't that she left the Galactic Federation military and became a bounty hunter.

So even after saving the galaxy multiple times, he's restricting her level of interaction with the GFA's affairs, referring to her as an "outsider."

Also, after the Hatchling death in Super Metroid, I could only go "meh" to Aerith's death in FFVII.

Yeah, someone can wall jump ten stories and plummet down deep chambers and lands like a cat, but kicking?

Man, kicking is where we should draw the line.

This kind of logic is up there with "FFXII is stupid because airships are named after summons." Samus has insane acrobatic abilities to start with, a kick is not a stretch.

really? your going to skip what seems so far to be a really good and solid Metroid title, because she can melee now?...... Have you not read the comics, she can do more then just shoot you know -.-

I have been a fan of the series since the first one on NES, and even though I am tired of all the prequels and in betweens, this next step I can see enjoying, the first run of Metriod games have been side scrolling platform shooters, good games. The Prime set took it a another level and made FPS platformer, again nice games. Now Nintendo is letting Team Ninja take the game in yet another new route, full action shooter. It has "side scrolling" FPS and action elements in it.

Still not sure how I feel about Other M yet. It sounds like it's going to be awesome and I am curious how it's going to play using only the Wiimote to control, but part of me still isn't comfortable with bringing all the fancy cutscenes and voice acting into a Metroid game.

Super Metroid ending sequence re-enactment was fuckwin awesome though.

I just feel melee attacks on aliens shouldn't be fatal compared to blasting them with the arm cannon. the only exceptions being moves like the space jump or hyper boost/run/jump. Also if Samus ends up fighting in zero gravity in some areas, there is even less reason melee attacks would do any damage to aliens/enemies. that's like astronauts trying to knock each other out in the spacestation. ya it's science fiction, but oh well, it's good Metroid is getting more games. If only Nintendo did something about making a new console Star Fox game that receives as much work and budget as the biggest Nintendo project out there. But I wouldn't want Tecmo to make the next Star Fox. Maybe Namco.

Yeah, because aliens can only be injured by energy blasters.

there is even less reason melee attacks would do any damage to aliens/enemies. that's like astronauts trying to knock each other out in the spacestation.

...which matters why? Where exactly does gravity figure into getting punched in the face? It's not like the punch is going to send the person flying backwards without injury, you will always injure the person before the energy is transferred into sending them backwards.

Truly you have a dizzying intellect.

If Macross has taught me anything it's that things hitting you in zero gravity have a high chance to make you explode, especially if said things are powered metal suits. Samus can jump nearly three stories without the high jump boots, so you have to know there's some kick in her kick.
