So what you're saying is, her conciousness is stored within the suit while her physical body is transormed into energy? Okay, I can kinda buy that, but WTF at it reconfiguring her afterward? I guess it works on the same level of teleportation. I guess my point is just... WTF that suit is all kinds of awesome lol. Oh the poor Space Pirates who "tested" their attempts at recreating the morph ball X.x

I think its a mental/spiritual link. Samus' first suit was disrupted in Zero Mission and lost, though, but the suit she got later in Zero Mission was enshrined and treated like something sacred, much like how the other artifacts were parts of chozo statues.

So I'm assuming there's a stonger supernatural aspect to the Chozo Power Suit, perhaps more powerful than the original suit she wore that bonded it to her more closely.

And I really want to know the story of the original warrior that used that particular Power Suit before Samus. His image was on the wall in the same room you got it.

There's also a corpse in a power suit in the entrance to Ridley's hideout in Super Metroid, and the origin of the ghost ship was never explained either (it's not the Space Pirate ship from Zero Mission.)

EDIT: There's info here. Apparently it takes "unfathomable" concentration to keep the suit on. This would be consistent with the scene in the manga where seeing Ridley upset her to the point that she lost her Power Suit.

Are you referring to Golden Torizo?

As for the ghost ship, I think that happend after the events of Zero Mission. The Space Pirates were still on Zebes and Mother Brain is said to have control over Phantoon. Well and he has a statue for the gate to her lair, so it must have happened afterward. Place looks ransacked by the pirates anyhow.

Can't wait to get my Wii, Super Metroid will probably be the first thing I download.

I honestly can't recall if it was in the games themselves or one of the manuals but I distinctly remember reading that the Morphball transforms Samus into pure energy while she's in that mode. It's the only explanation that works, otherwise, much like the poor Space Pirates, she'd break every bone in her body.

OK, yeah, that I remember, Armando said Ridley's Lair had it, which I associate with Tourian. Tourian had the second Torizo and that was the one that caught super missiles and threw them back at you.

And yeah, Mal, I think Samus turns into energy somehow in the morphball, because when you peer in the cracks of the morphball, there's a ball of light inside it. at least that's the case with the Prime games.

I really do wish they would have stuck with Ivan Flores for monster and armor design, but I have a feeling Team Ninja's pride would have probably gotten in the way of that one.

That's what I've guessed, but you have to wonder what the ship was doing there. From the looks of it, it's been abandoned for quite a while.

I'm not too sure on this, since Prime games deviate from her normal Power Suit design. The proportions and finer details are different, and the Prime versions tend to have more lights on the suit (e.g. in Prime games she has a neon green line running along the side of her outer thighs, in numbered games there's no light there.) Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion morph balls didn't have any lights in the cracks. The Morph Ball is rather large as well; they might've made it half her height out of convenience in 2D games, but a scan visor scan in Prime says it's 3 feet in diameter (which is consistent with the half her height thing, since Samus is 6'3" in suit.) She could fit inside. I always just figured the plating on the suit simply rearranges into a sphere around her. Something like this:

How though? Conservation of Mass kinda screws with this theory a bit don't you think? She does shrink a good deal when she goes into the Morph Ball mode and not just because she's more compact. Also, I'm fairly sure that at least in Fusion & Zero Mission, when she's in the MB mode you can see a good deal of light emanating from inside the ball.


And don't bring up Phantoon lol. I always hated that boss. Actually, if any game needs to be redone in 3D like the prime series it's super M because of bosses like Phantoon. Instead of waiting for him to materialize, wouldn't it just be so much cooler to use her X-Ray Visor from Prime 1? There were actually a number of things they either left out or changed for that series too like the super missiles & bombs or her hyper dash. Then again, it's hard enough making some of those screwy jumps with a 2D viewpoint, 3D FPV would just make it impossible to control moving at those speeds lol.

Got my wires crossed again, Andrew Jones was the guy behind much of the art concepts for Prime. I just feel the work is a nice mix of the classic designs with more of a contemporary feel. His version of the Power Suit is golden rather than eye-searing yellow.

His monster designs are a bit better suited for 3D as well.

I can understand the return to a more bright yellow if they're going to have 2D moments and dark areas. We didn't have to look around for Samus in the Prime games because we were right in her shoes.

All that Fusion Suit stuff just goes on to remind me how deeply intertwined Metroid is to the movie series Alien.

Ripley starts out hating Aliens (and for good reason) and eventually becomes intertwined and inseparable them (Allen Resurrection).

Well, except as fourth installments go, Fusion was better than Resurrection. I actually wish Resurrection and the AVP movies never happened. Should have just ended with Alien 3. Samus gets the irony of bearing the legacy of the Chozo and Metroids she sought to exterminate.

I agree with you about Resurrection though, and somewhat on AVP. I like the way they tied in the Predators and the Xenomorphs histories, but the movies have been just awful (you can thank Paul W. Anderson for that)

Also, last I checked the Metroid movie is still in production, though lord knows if and when it will ever see the light of day . I can't think for the life of me who would make a good Samus Aran though. I remember years ago when the news was first announced an old friend of mine was joking about how he'd boycott Metroid if they picked Hillary Duff.

Where did that tourettes moment come from? I said Metroid Fusion was better than Alien: Resurrection, I did not say Metroid Fusion was bad. Its certainly not the best of the series, but not bad. I'd play it again.

Alien Resurrection was fucking terrible, though. Once was enough and I still feel shorted the matinee price.

Also, last I checked the Metroid movie is still in production, though lord knows if and when it will ever see the light of day . I can't think for the life of me who would make a good Samus Aran though. Its never going to happen, the rights have passed through countless hands and I think it all expired some time ago.

Also, while not totally in "the look" of Samus, Milla Jovovich works for me. She's actually not to bad of an actress, she just signs up for a lot of bad movies. Her voice works, too. She' be more of the waifish Samus hinted at in the first two games.

That or do a CG movie and just get Jennifer Hale. But as of Metroid: Other M, I don't really see the need of a movie, it seems we're getting a very cinematic treatment for this game which is VERY unlike Nintendo to do. Guess you can do that when you sell all those Wiis. I just hope Japan reacts this time, Metroid games do better here than over there.
