Re: Super Street Fighter IV ! SFIII characters trailer!
In Japan, Arcades are VERY lucrative. Many Japanese players don't even care about the console version and would not touch online play. Arcades is where its at. Its why Ono is really trying to get a Super SFIV out for arcades because otherwise the majority(probably 90%) won't even care about it. Its a huge loss for the community as well because you lose the experience and findings of the Japanese to help up our game as well. Example would be...there would be no SSFIV in SBO, one of the biggest publicized Japanese Tournaments ever because they use arcade cabs only. That would be a huge blow to everyone into SSFIV.
Personally, i would have arcades over any console any day. No lag, frequent random competition, face to face, and the atmosphere cannot be emulated at the quiet recesses of your couch. Its something special thats hard to describe honestly. It just breeds better players. If online does become the future, then i rather they use GGPO netcode...i can't stand the lag, any sort at all in these types of games. Messes up execution among other stupid stuff is a bother. Its why a majority of top players ignore online play outside of messing around...its not a real representation of the game.

Balance-wise, unless every character is the same, its hard to achieve real balance. Theres going to be some better than others no matter what. What really matters is, can even the lowest ranked character compete with the top in its own unique style? I feel thats what important, not really balance. Guilty Gear is a good example of this. Most games every character is competitive to some degree.
If anything, having everything balanced makes the game have less variety because things tend to end up similar for the sake of balance... I use certain characters that are considered weaker than others and still do better using them than a top ranked one just because it fits me better...as long as it fits different types of people and they can all fight uniquely against everyone, i am sure balance is a non-issue (if anything, this could inspire balance all on its own).
I felt the original SFIV had pretty bland character choices for the most part due to how the characters played, only a few stood out. Hopefully with Super, it will be much much more diversified.
