Which was a huge success.
People don't care so much about religious fiction because of violence (Passion was incredibly successfully financially, despite an R-rating) or proselytism as much as it being poorly done. Left Behind did try its damnedest to say "BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN TO YOU IF YOU DO NOT REPENT NOW"; not through the characters, not through the plot, but by writers using the characters as mouthpieces and forcing the plot to act in ways that make absolutely no sense merely to conform to scripture.
Da Vinci Code and Assassin's Creed clearly show that there is not only is there plenty of support for works that blaspheme, but that they can be financially successful. There is very little reason for why there are tons of Romance of the Three Kingdom franchises in the East, but very few franchises in the West that use our epics for not just vague imagery but the entire plot.
