HD Shenmue is financial suicide. The gamers that didn't want a non-action game the first two times aren't going to want it now, the people that already played it will largely ignore it (out of not wanting to play the same game twice, or being angry at Sega for not releasing Shenmue 3), the people that do buy it will largely be people who don't even want the game itself, but just want SEGA to make more Shenmue. The best hope is something like a Shenmue Prime Trilogy on Wii. update the first two game's content (biggest importance is giving lower difficulty settings for QTEs and fight sequences), add some new content (Chapter 2 and the remainder of the story), market it well and pray that casuals can get into it. Would GTA graphics in Shenmue be sweet? Yes. Would redone voices to not be shit be great? Of course. But aiming for the bare minimum is the best way for SEGA to ever consider actually doing it. And right now, it makes far more sense for Sega to try to market closure to the fans and a new form of storytelling to people who don't play games than it does for Sega to release the same game that already failed and hope people go after it now.Originally posted by Malacite View Post

Sega just publishes for them, really. You can still hate them since its not really their game at all. I'm getting Infinite Space in March, which is a Platinum/Nude Maker collaboration that went over rather well in Japan. Think Evangelion meets Star Trek meets turn-based RPG.
You can have a fleet of ships, meet and assign hundreds of people to those ships and customize those ships right down to where you want the sick back and who you want working there.
Its probably the only other DS game out there besides Pokemon that will have a guide that competes with an Elder Scrolls game.

On the subject of Shenmue, it was recently stated by Sega that they are interested in completing the Shenmue trilogy, they're just concerned about the financial investment involved. So they're basically looking for someone that will pick up the tab.
MS picked up the tab on porting Shenmue, touching up the graphics with obnoxious bloom filters and voice recording (english translation was already done for the PAL version on Dreamcast). It bombed, so I don't see MS sticking out their necks to do it again. MS isn't all about doing the art house games.
So that leaves it between Sony and Nintendo, really. Nintendo has the money to burn, though, I don't think it would be wise for Sony to add another bomb to thier list. Heavy Rain will be their Shenmue-style failure.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 02-06-2010, 03:20 PM.

Well, towards the end, yes, but there were just as many embarrassing blemishes on Shenmue. Shenmue's story didn't dive off a cliff, but let's face it, the voice acting was constantly bad, the plot is a completely straight forward "Hero wants revenge for his father's death" story (so far, at least. BG&E, Okami, and Ico had high quality throughout, although there were parts of BG&E that seemed cheap compared to the rest to me they were still well produced. But you have to admit that Indigo Prophecy failed because people simply didn't care, not because there were people that wanted it to be good, and then decided they didn't want a game with a shitty third act.Comment

From an aethsetics point of view the game looks very nice. But I'm a bit weary of the episodic factor. I mean, there has been some great games that have been released episodically, but they are a completely different genre of game.
