    Re: Xenoblade o. O?

I still think it was silly. I didn't see the whole thing, just brief coverage by CNN.

Note: I have nothing personal against the guy (unlike several other CEOs and other high "authority" figures I can name) I just think he's a bit of a douche :3

Also that's pretty sad if the company lives or dies purely because of one man. You'd think he was Jesus or something

      Jobs is an asshole.

There is a reason for this though. Apple's board of directors in the late '80s was getting irritated at the amount of power Jobs had over the company, even though it produced fantastic results. After a vote they replace Jobs and give him his walking papers. The result is the Apple of the 90's, a company lacking direction. The CEO's and product managers they hired pitched their own little projects and funded them completely even after it became apparent the projects had no future. You have Michael Dell quoted in 97 I believe saying that if he was the head of Apple, he would liquidate the company and close the doors because it was the best return the investors could hope for. Apple was a failing company.

Around this time Apple has scrapped a project called Copland and is shopping around for a new basis for the next MacOS. Be asked for far too much so they turned to a small, failing company that had a kick ass OS, NeXT. NeXT was founded by Jobs after he was kicked out of Apple. One of the terms of selling NeXT to Apple was that Jobs had to come back as an interim CEO.

      He did.

Jobs kills all of these pet projects that are bleeding money, the Newton and Mac clones die quickly. Then Apple creates the iMac, a system that bears a striking resemblance to the original Macintosh which was a project that Jobs took over. It was a huge success. Then the iPod is produced. Then the iTunes store. All of Apples success has pretty much been either directly Jobs original ideas or under his tenure.

Oh, and by the way, Apple is also more profitable then Dell now and has been for many years.

This has become a large problem for Apple, since he is going to retire one day. This is why more and more it is not Jobs who presents new products, but either the products direct manager or other senior members at Apple. They still haven't shaken the Jobs is Apple view yet though.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

o.O thanks for the little history lesson there ^^

Isn't he getting old too? IIRC he had a liver transplant or something that saved his life, but still for a company to depend on just one man for it's success isn't exactly a winning business model for the long term, no matter how brilliant said person may be.

Well, at least Jobs is brilliant though. Wish I could say the same for Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby "every gamer hates me" Kotic >_> (seriously that guy needs to DIAF and soon)

          Destructoid - janoDX's Community Blog

A few more details have surfaced, no more silly iPhone arguments.

The two "robots" in the imgage we've seen are the gods of an old world. They died fighting each other in a great battle and from each dead body, a race was born. One human, the other robotic. And obviously they don't like each other much.

The director said that this really has nothing to do with Xenosaga at all. The title does hold a meaning, but they've said they want you to find that meaning within the story.

They also are aspiring to bring this on the scale of an MMORPG, much like FFXII did. There will be lots to explore. I haven't listened to the referenced podcast, so I don't know the nature of the actual enemy engagements, but there are not random encounters and there can be aggro while you're already in combat.

Getting more interested now. This is the kind of scope I've wanted to see JRPGs continue in. Some WRPGs like Fallout 3 and Oblivion still have this kind of scope, but they've arguably also felt a little smaller than in years past.

Apparently, only the Wii has the power to do RPG towns, based off one of these scans.

I've had mine from day 1 and I'm really pissed off at how little I've used it. I basically only play it when a major 1st party IP comes out and then it goes right back to collecting dust

Well, this is a totally different IP and Xenosaga had to stay with Bandai Namco, just like Xenogears had to stay with Square Enix. Legal stuff, you know. I don't give a damn about the "Xeno" part in all honesty, I'm more interested in what comes of this now that Monolith Soft doesn't have to deal with Namco being all like:

"MOAR CUTSCENES THAN TEH METAL GEARZ! NO SELL GOOD, FIRE PEOPLE! HIRE NEW ONES, GO FOR REALIZM! OK, NO, GO BACK TO ANIME STYLE NAO, K?"

Seeing as Nintendo doesn't really give a shit about any of that, they're more like:

"We want to help us make an impressive push into the console RPG market. Here's a lot of our print money. Make the game you want."

Still amazed people cared about the story to Xenosaga after the second game. I don't hold anything against Monolith Soft here, I know it was all fuck-ups from Namco - they've done it with many more games since then.

I'm sure some of the old themes may cross over, but after hearing about the scope they're going for, that's really all I care about at this point. MMO-sized game? Nintendo's backing? No worries here, sign me up.

Xenosaga could have been awesomely epic.

The first game ended with the feeling that you were only just scratching the surface of what is going on. The third was fast paced and generally fun to play, though a lot of its pacing was because the second did so little for the whole story. I think many played the second for the same reason I did, the first lead you to think that they must have something great going on that at some point in time a worthwhile game has got to break out eventually. I haven't even finished the second one, I just downloaded the last few scenes even though even they didn't mean much to the whole story.

So while I can understand why people would be interested in the Xenosaga story after ep2, I'm amazed that as many people tried ep3 after the abortion of a battle system ep2 used.

I still think it was pretty damned good, and I enjoyed the ending well enough. Really my only major beef was that they censored all the blood and the combat was even worse IMO than in the 2nd game in some ways.
