  • Xenoblade o. O?

    Looks interesting...

Nintendo saved us a weekend of speculation by opening an official site for Xenoblade, a game who's name appeared for the first time in a financial report earlier today.
Access the site, and you'll see this:

There's a grand score in the background, so you should visit the site for yourself.
The site is in a teaser state, with no actual links or information, but text at the bottom confirms this to be a Monolith Software game.
Nintendo confirmed during an investors meeting earlier today that Xenoblade is indeed the final name for the game that was unveiled at E3 2009 under the tentative title of Monado. This is the latest game from Xenosaga's Tetsuya Takahashi.
The site lists the game's genre as RPG, platform as Wii, and release time frame as Spring 2010.

Xenogears, Xenosaga, and now Xenoblade. hmmm, even if it turns out as epic as those, I wouldn't buy a Wii for it. I would just watch some youtube walkthrough, like I did with Metroid Prime 3. :p

I am surprised it's coming this spring and we have seen virtually nothing about it.

But it must be hard on them because they have to start with a new universe/story from scratch instead of continuing where
Xenosaga Episode 3 left off. So basically they are making a new possible series maybe, though it would be interesting if they buy the rights of Xenosaga from Namco, but not sure about that.

also the Wii's memory limit on their discs....hmm I wonder if the game would be long and deep enough?

well it remains to be seen what becomes of this.

Nintendo owns Monolith Soft and has for about the last three years now.The other members of that team make DS games for Sega, Sands of Destruction most notably bearing a resemblance to Xenogears.

Before Xenoblade, they also produced Soma Bringer for the DS, which Nintendo still hasn't localized and brought over. It looks and plays like a hybrid of Secret of Mana and Diabolo. Think what if you could team up or go your separate ways in an action area - that's Soma Bringer.

Xenoblade and The Last Story are part of Nintendo's move into the RPG market. I hope it works out for them, God knows sone of the big three consoles needed to get JRPGs out there again. I'm totally down for a Wii with these two and Shiren the Wanderer appearing this year.

Dispite eventually loathing Xenosaga, I did like Monolith Soft's collaboration with tri-Crescendo on the Baten Kaitos games. So I'm certainly interested in giving this a chance.

based on the name, they might reinvent the Xenogears/saga universe once again.

Abel is probably going to be a farmer this time.

and Elly might be called Nephelly. :p

memory limits? what anti-Nintendo BS have you been reading lol ;p
The Wii disc is a 4.7/8.54 GB DVD-based disc, same capacity as a PS2 or 360 disc, so it can hold its own in that department.

Not to mention its not about the capacity, but how well its assets are used and how well the data gets compressed.

Metroid Prime was a lot bigger than some of the games for its time and it was just on a 1.5 gig disc.

Speaking of Prime, I really hope this game actually bothers to take advantage of the Wii's specs.

Now obviously Wii can't put out anything nearly as nice as on the 360 or PS3, but it can still do visuals far better than what we've seen in the majority of games. Honestly why is it that only Prime 3 and Twilight Princess have thus far been visual masterpieces?

Here's hoping for no gimmicky combat either.

I have to agree. I think some developers get lazy when they know its going on the Wii. It's like they think they don't have to put that extra effort in and make it really shine.

I heard it had less processing power than an iphone.

For one Iphones are overpowered POS...

                    Wii: 729MHz
                    IphoneG3: 620 MHz underclocked to 412 MHz
                    IphoneG3S: 833 MHz underclocked to 600 MHz

so the answer to that would be yes, and no ;p by that would not matter anyway, as the GPU in the Wii is much grater.

I love my Wii just like the next Nintendo fan but calling the iPhone a POS is so wrong. I finally caved and got one after going through at least a DOZEN phones. It's not overpowered for people that actually utilize it (and for people that don't then you probably shouldn't have bought one).

In Ultimania Final Fantasy XIII's book, SE rationalized that making towns was too difficult of an addition for an HD game like FFXIII, so that's why FFXIII doesn't have towns to stop by in.

I'm more inclined to believe the spent too much time on making the game look pretty and not enough on making it as expansive as they could have. After FFXI and FFXII, there's really no excuse for FFXIII not being as expansive as either of those games. Dragon Quest VIII also says hello to next-gen Final Fantasy.

Then again, a lot of games pay the price of length and size by vying for prom queen status.

Personally, though, I don't think Mistwalker and Nintendo are going to be among the "lazy" on this one.

I think it might have something to do with FFXIII being developed for the PS2 first. Then when that fell through they had wasted a year and a half of development time not to mention the wasted money. It's sad but true and it really does tend to piss one off when you hear about it.

Which explains why FFXI, FFXII and DQVIII are much larger games. Clearly, it was PS2 limitations holding FFXIII back.

Or was it PS3 limitations now?

SE did not have to join in the next-gen rat race, they could have avoided a lot of the issues they had and time wasted/lost had they simply went with platforms and not the ones forcing the highest development costs. I only see Namco, Bioware, Bethesda and a scant few others puting out RPGs and they're all are or are part of rather rich companies.

And many of those bigger, richer companies have more to lose right now. Had SE not scored a big one with the wise decision to put Dragon Quest IX on DS, who knows how far in the hole they'd be over FFXIII?

I don't think I need to point out which is the smarter business model here. A more progressive platform doesn't mean a better business model, unfortunately.

It's not the size of your clock speed, it's how you use it.
