MHFO is pretty similar to the online modes of the console Monster Hunter games. The main difference is that MHFO gets regularly updated with new content and new monsters while the console versions are pretty much static with what they contain.
I clawed my way through PS2 MH1. That's the only MH to come stateside on console.

I have never heard the term "claw" the hell does that mean? Honestly I am just curious ;p Also Monter Hunter 1 & 2 on the PS2, the right analog stick was used for attacking, not camera

        This.

"The Claw" is a specific way of holding the controller in order to control your character, control the camera, and attack all at the same time. The most extensive amount of clawing I did was on the PSP with MHFU:

        1) Left thumb on left analog nub
        2) Left index finger laying across the dpad.
        3) Left middle finger on L1

        Thus, "The Claw".

Huh. Never knew the word for what that move was... but, that fits it very well indeed. My hands ache at the thought of it actually.

Looking at wow 10 million world wide (only counting sub games) , it is child's play.

and no, JAPAN ONRY, North americans/Europeans aren't getting their hand on this. KOREAN/CHINESE/JAPAN ONRY!!!

well no we are not getting it now, but if MH3 does good enough, and I pray it does, so a repeat of what happened on MH for PS2 does not occur -.- We might get it here. A Monster Hunter that I can play, that gets update with new stuff? Yes please ^.^

Hasn't seemed to stop Capcom from trying. Now that they have an Xbox version of the PC game planned, do you seriously believe they won't try to bring it over.

If Capcom has been able to afford to bring over every other version they've had - and they have - then that means its not breaking the bank that badly for them to do so, it just means they are not doing something right in the west.

You also don't seem to understand that, once you hit a certain point you make a profit. Square Enix could have only sold 50k on Dragon Quest IX and broken even. They sold four million. What the hell could they need from the west in sales after that? Anything after that is a bonus.

And that's sort of how hot Monster Hunter is in Japan, its like #2 to Dragon Quest right now. Big cash cow for Capcom to line their coffers with. Considering all the assets that get recycled for this series, they can only stand to profit from each released version at this point.

Even if it doesn't make a tremendous splash on 360, its still a success.

                      Re: New Monster Hunters...

It's not so much a matter of making a profit (which the entire MH franchise already has), but it's a matter of making MORE profit. As a franchise whole, they crossed that break even point a looooong time ago. But if you look at JPN releases and NA releases seperately, I'm sure not a whole lot of profit was made out west.

You really can't disregard the cost of localization and marketing which, if the game does poorly, will NOT recoup such costs. There's no guarantee that the NA version will even be worth the cost, but I know Capcom really wants MH to succeed in the west.

No matter how much I love the franchise, I can't see it being a success in NA. The game is much too difficult and time consuming for most casual NA gamers (lack of lock on and poor camera controls being the main culprit). There's also wierd things that disconnects the immersion of the game; for example, when you enter any given zone, you have your own set of trash mobs to deal with while everyone fights the same boss mob. It's wierd, something I've noticed since the very beginning of the franchise in which they never rectified.

This game will come stateside though. It makes no sense for capcom to release it on the lowest selling console in Japan without having plans to port it to the west. Although I do find the timing strange seeing as MHT will due in April internationally for the Wii. Makes you wonder what they're thinking over there.

                        Re: New Monster Hunters...

I think most console players don't have the foresight, patience, and attention span to tackle most of the MH missions. I think PC players would be better suited for this.

Well lets see how Monster Hunter 3 does here first, and if Capcom will charge the Wii points they do in Japan for the online part.

If they do what they did with Monster Hunter 1 on PS2 over here, they wont, but we will see.

the fact that none of the PSP version have online nativity, makes the Wii version 100% better to me ;p

I loved Monster hunter, ever since we got the PS2 original.....but I could not play the PsP versions for the simple fact that I was the only one to have a PSP let alone Monster hunter, and only could play alone.

on a side note, here is the release info for Monster Hunter Tri

                                # US & EU releases will feature FREE online play.
                                # US & EU will have separate servers. So Americans will not be able to play with Europeans or Japanese (and vice versa).
                                # Online play will consist of 4-player teams. The "lobby" areas will be in the form of a city, similar to the Town of Minegarde for Monster Hunter (Playstation 2).
                                # Online "arm wrestling" feature.
                                # Decorate your house with furnishings and invite other players to view your home.
                                # Add players to your friends list or search online via their "Online ID"

-----> * Monster Hunter Tri will not be using friend codes <----- THANK GOD!

                                # Chat online using the onscreen keyboard, a USB keyboard, or pre-made messages.
                                # Wii Speak is confirmed for the European and American release
                                # Wii Speak is not supported in the Japanese version.
                                # Despite misconceptions of MH3 to offer DLC (downloaded content), there will not be any. However, there are event quests.
                                -------------------------------------------------------------------------
