Definitely going to give it a try, even if I don't know like 80% of the characters...

the story mode is very deep and the cutscenes (even text based ones), are fully voiced and at times even feels like a RPG story! I'm sure by the time you finish story mode, you will understand at least 80% of the characters.

oh yes! the combat is deep! especially with the 3 type support system and so many unique characters! You can't win just mashing buttons!
but it's also easy to pick up and play! best fighting game ever!

nuuuuu, that is just cult popularity. Many are preferring SuperSFIV instead of Third Strike.

And even though people would argue that it's the deepest, that doesn't make it the most balanced or most fun. it's character selection is worst in the series, and the classic SF2 favorites are not all there, its graphics and music are bad too, and its backgrounds don't have the charisma of the other SF games.

Okay... no. 3s is not the best fighting game ever made. Neither is Super SFIV. Maybe I'm an elitiest, but 3s has some of the most horrible balance for a competitive fighter, and SSFIV is too accessible with poor engine design. But that's a conversation for another time.

I watched some videos of this Naruto game... it doesn't look every good. It's like a worse version of the DBZ: Tenkaichi series.

The only balance issues I encountered was that Sean sucks. There's probably more at higher levels of play but I was under the impression that top tier play always results in certain characters not being able to compete.

J9, shut the hell up. SFIV is just the most recent iteration, that doesn't mean people have stopped playing Third Strike or that SFIV is inherently better. When I go to MAGFest this year, there will still be people playing Third Strike and Third Strike tournaments going on in addition to SFIV making the rounds. I'd stake my life on it. The game is rock solid.

Everything else you said is dead wrong too. It's the most enjoyable fighting game I've ever encountered as well as the most balanced(barring scary higher level play). The character selection is outstanding, it finally moves on from ethnic stereotypes to characters who are a little more varied and many who are downright endearing. The graphics are phenomenal as is the soundtrak, so clearly you have no idea what the hell you're talking about or you're one of those people who can't comprehend that aesthetic appeal and hyper realistic 3D graphics are not the same thing.

Do you really not have the ability to appreciate anything that isn't brand new J9? Are you really so easily enticed by shiny bits of string?

Soundtrack was fine. I've been playing a lot of Alpha 2 lately and Third Strike easily beats the hell out of that game's soundtrack so I don't understand what your complaint is? That it doesn't have the exact same soundtrack as SFII? You need a more compelling argument than that.

Which ones? Besides, they're both Capcom games and Street Fighter's always had some off-beat characters in its lineup.

I suppose to put things into perspective... the top 6 for 3s at 2008 Evo was 5 Chunli's and an Akuma. If that doesn't show a glaring balance issue, I don't know what does. There are few characters masters from Japan, but even they can't deal with how good Chun and Yun are.

3s is just so different from traditional SF that it don't feel like SF. If you've spent all your life playing SF2 through SFA3, it takes a hell of a lot of effort to adjust to the 3s engine because you basically have to unlearn everything you learned prior to playing 3s. Parry changes the dynamic of the game too much. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily, but a lot of players don't like it.

What, only one Shoto and no Yun? Sounds a bit fishy. I knew Yun did scary juggles but I hadn't heard about Chun being some unstoppable powerhouse. Even if there is a power disparity at higher levels of play, whenever I played I always felt like the parry mechanic gave me enough wiggle room that I could realistically play as any character and still put up a good fight. I think parry was the best thing to ever happen to Street Fighter. It added a ton of new mind games and the ability to make a make amazing comebacks instead of just getting ground into the dirt from chip damage.

Here's the 2008 top 8 results for 3s. Remember, 2008 was also the last year 3s singles would be played. 2009 3s was teams (2v2) and there was much more diversity there, thank god.

3rd - Amir (Chun Li)
4th - Tokido (Chun Li, Urien)
5th - Ryan Harvey (Chun Li)
5th - J.R. Rodriguez (Akuma)
7th - Mike Watson (Ken)
7th - Ryan Hart (Ken, Yun)

The reason Chun is such a monster character is specifically because parries exist. Her ability to option select (parry + c.mk), hit confirm SAII (lightning kick super) meant that if you were even remotely in range to poke, you wouldn't want to because it'll get parried and you lose. Sure, parries help out low tiers as well as top tiers, but top tiers exploit it harder. Akuma in that list is also a complete outlier because Jrod is probably the best Akuma on the planet.
