      The gameplay looks fairly unintuitive, even for a 3D fighter. I guess I'll just stick to 3rd Strike and be content with perfection.

          More like content with hit-confirmed footsies to super am I right? I liked 3rd Strike too (especially Elena. sweet, delicious dark-skinned Elena) but parrying is broken as hell.

            I dunno about that. Parry was what really made the game a blast for me. It meant my friends and I could always try to weasel our way out of taking a hit or combo. It also meant fireball spam became a lot more manageable.

              parrying ruined street fighter. Yes it is flashy and nice seeing the pros do it in tournaments, but overall, it made the
              game less accessible and rewarded turtles too much.

              It would have worked better if it worked like clashing in KOFXII. both would receive a little damage, but it would push both away from each other so it doesn't get abused by one player.

              But apparently people like any advantage over their opponent, which is why Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is still popular today. -.-;

                Really? Are you serious? 3rd Strike was the most accessible thing since sliced bread.

                I hated fighting games for the longest time. They were always frustrating for me, getting my ass handed to me by some moveset I couldn't figure out. 3rd Strike changed that for me. The parry system was an intuitive way to reverse an offensive push on the fly. It was hard to get the timing at first yes, but the whole system made a lot of sense and allowed me a lot more freedom on the battlefield. The parry system also made the game a bit more balanced at low to mid level play. Tournament players are still going to be choosing Yun and Ken until the cows come home, but for people who don't make it to that level of play Parry offers a way to even the playing field a bit.

                  well parrying is too hard to me. ya I can parry fireballs from distance, but it's still very annoying when you commit to a move, and you are helpless because people who are better at parrying are virtually invincible. It makes even special moves useless and it makes matches even more one sided to me.

                  Super SF2Turbo and SFIV had a better balance of defense and counters without turning into a brick wall. If someone parries a kick that can send someone to the hospital, they should feel some pain. :p

                    Parrying isn't hard Jen. It sounds to me like it's more a problem with you being able to play the game than a flaw with the game's mechanics. Spend some time sparring with some friends, you'd be surprised how much easier it is to pick up when you're facing off against another person.

                        These just seem incredibly unbelievable to me. I've played 3rd Strike before. I got nothing but blisters on my hand from trying to execute what should have been really basic crap.

                        Really, concerning non-Smash Bros. fighting games (because, IMO, Smash Bros. is ultimately as intuitive as fighting games can get, barring a few arcane upper-echelon Melee mechanics), Tatsunoko vs. Capcom seemed a crapload more intuitive to me (I've played it before on someone else's modded Wii). You had a light, medium, heavy, and second character attack, and that was mostly what you needed to know (maybe some stuff you could do with the shoulder buttons as well, like Advance Guard, or attacking whilst charging up the Mega Buster for Volnutt). I'm pretty sure once it gets over here with a freaking manual I can read it could only get better!

                            Arcade sticks. They're what most fighting games are designed for. Now I can understand that a lot of people don't play fighters seriously enough to warrant the purchase, but really, it's like using Crayola brand coloring pencils and then complaining about colored pencils not being any good for art.
                            You had a light, medium, heavy, and second character attack, and that was mostly what you needed to know
                            That's highly debatable, since you wouldn't know how to Baroque, Mega Crash, tag in during aerial raves (not sure what that's called) or do supers with both characters at the same time.

                              ONLINE CONFIRMED it really now has a chance of being worth full purchase

                              even if it has KOFXII wonky netcode, there will still be good connection matches to be worth adding them to friends list to fill up one's selection of compatible opponents!
