Re: Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 scans! multiplatform!
Old games aren't valid choices for a "best of" list? I think not. Some of my favorite video games of all time are quite old.
Gauntlet? Old.
Wasteland? Old.
Grim Fandango? Old.
Archon? Old.
You know what's not on my list? Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm. Would I play any/all of the above listed games before I put my copy of N:UNS back in my PS3? You better believe it.
Look, there's nothing wrong with being a mega-fan. There's nothing wrong with enthusiasm. But don't let it blind you. Ultimate Ninja Storm is a "good" game. It's got GREAT visuals (I actually think the game looks BETTER than the original series art, which is quite an achievement), some very solid gameplay at times, and pretty good audio design. Free roaming in the village is fun and interesting. Boss fights are pretty fun.
It also has a lot of flaws. Rehashed story arc that's been covered by every other Naruto game ever made? Check. Horrible game balance between characters? Check. Lame attempt at RPG-Lite gameplay in Story mode? Check. Tons of weak and uninspired minigames? Check. Not enough back story to fill in non-die-hard fans on what's going on, or who everyone is? Check.
So no, it's not one of the best games ever. But that doesn't mean it's not worth owning, and it doesn't mean it's not worth playing. It does do the most important elements right, and there's plenty of fanservice to go around, and for that I give it credit.
I look forward to owning UNS2 whenever it gets released.
