Judging from that trailer I could just watch the anime and get the same results. I just don't see what the appeal is beyond, "Oh hey guys, look it's a Naruto game".

            HYPER MEW MODE!!!!!!!!!

Listen, just imagine something that you are most passionate about in this world, whether it's an anime, or game, or both,
and THEN you can begin to get an idea what all the praise and love from Naruto fans (and people who just like the UNS1 game)

Even though I'm not a big fan of Megaman or the MM games, even I can understand Malacite's passion for anything MM and the value of Megaman games and the franchise as whole being awesome even though it's not my favorite cup of tea.

So why can't you understand Naruto/UNS fans?

This is not just another Naruto game. This is the successor to the greatest Naruto game and one of the greatest games ever made.
It doesn't need a Street Fighter or fighting game wannabe's rules and depth to be more fun than any of those. (just as games like Super Smash Bros. has proven.)
It's really worth being super hyped about! Being a Naruto fan is a plus, but the gameplay and features and system themselves take things to a whole different level.

... I'm with you this far.

... and one of the greatest games ever made.
                No. Just no.

I like N:UNS quite a lot. I bought it when it released and have zero regrets about it. It really does prove that anime games do not have to suck. But calling it "one of the greatest games ever made"? No. It has many flaws. It's just good compared to all the other games. As the old saying goes... "In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." - and that is probably the best that can be said for Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm. On the grand scale of things, it doesn't even make my list of top 50 games ever made... heck, not even my top 100.

There we go flaunting opinions around.

Just because it isn't in your top 100, doesn't mean it's value isn't far greater for other people, so much that their love for it rivals your debatable "best games ever" list.

And what one person sees as a flaw, another can see it as an edge that doesn't spoil the larger picture at all.
yes UNS has its limits, but what I'm saying UNS2 will not only surpass it, but take the #1 top game spot for many people! ^-^

Overall, games can be labeled as the best and most world changing games, but it doesn't mean a thing these days if a fan doesn't desire to play it anymore. Technically those games WERE the best, but not anymore, otherwise they would still be used by people who place it in their top spot...so really those games really don't deserve to be in the top spots anymore if they aren't used.

                    No.

An old game can be superior to whatever is currently on the market regardless of whether or not it's being played constantly. Infinite replay is not a definitive indicator of a good game. A unique and gripping experience that can be had precisely once will always outshine a dull one that gets relived in endless monotony.

Do you sit there and watch your favorite movie over and over again for days on end Jen? You might, but the rest of us don't define "best" as whatever we happen to be watching most recently.

there is no such thing as "best game ever" as there will always be another to take ones place, but what cidbahamut said is also true ;p

movies are a terrible example because they suffer from the worst replay value, which is virtually nonexistant in most cases partially due to the lack of real interaction only games provide and much more.

Infinite replay is an important indicator of a good game. What's dull or what isn't dull is subjective and opinion based.
You can't deny how people honestly feel about a game they replay more than what you might think are better games.
To this day, there are people who play and love Super Mario 1 more than any other game out there, even after playing
the supposedly 'best' rated and best hyped released games out there.

Games that have a beginning and end in a gamer's present day use, are nothing more than has beens now.
No matter how great they were, they cannot substitute the natural need for something fun enough to play at the moment.

And if something if fun enough to play now over that past "top title" game that is decorated with medals for being so great back then,
then that's a big accomplishment for a game to draw in so much attention and use.

That's why the best games of the present surpass the games of the past. A game that's nothing more than a memory, is pretty worthless in the present time. It's really not even a game anymore, just a memory.

And while the memory is important, that is never going to satisfy the present day need for more great games to PLAY.
And this year especially has proven to be getting great games that surpass the great games of the past.

Not just because they are new, but they truly are shaping up to be truly as great, or great enough to be worth playing
at the present time over something that isn't as fun anymore.

The future is brighter than the past ever was!!!!!!

Regardless of Jen's enthusiasm; gotta admit those graphics are amazing. Never seen a game based off an anime look so identical (Though guess it can't be too hard when Naruto hardly has a palette to choose from. They only have what, 3 shades of color?)

Now get to work on a decent Katekyo Hitman Reborn game, lazy peons.

People pick up new games to experience something new. That doesn't mean the new game will provide a more memorable or fun experience than what are generally considered to be "one of the best games."

Replay value or duration has nothing to do with it either. The game with the most arduous, asinine grind is often not the most fun.

I am an absurdly large fan of Transformers and G.I. Joe. Ridiculously so by 'average' people's standards (and I have pics to prove it) but even I know that franchise games like this one, and the new Transformers game, will have limited success and never be top ranking games. They'll be fun games, and fans of those franchises will love them, but they'll never be the best of the best of anything.

I can understand being a passionate fan of a franchise, but I also know for a fact that most people don't share that passion unless it's a forum specifically dedicated to that specific franchise. And hell, even then there's still going to be a lot of people who don't like it.

FFVI, FFVII, SotN and SotC are still some of my, and many other gamers, favorite games ever made. They have little to no replayability, are in many cases well over a decade(or more) old and are things I personally haven't played in years. But the experiences I had while playing them have trumped those I've had while playing other, modern games I've played recently (and I've been using the hell out of my PS3 since I got it). Great games will always been great games, even things like Pac-Man, and as you pointed out, Mario, are still considered great games. It's why people try so hard to hack new hardware to emulate old games, and people demand so loudly for XBL and PSN to re-release games they've played ages ago. Hell, MM10 is a new game done in the style of the old games, as was a resounding success.

Newer doesn't always mean better, and the greats of the past will always be great. It's why people consider them great.
