All of the Spartan II's were about to leave on the Pillar of Autumn for their mission when the order to defend Reach came.

Reach WAS glassed (at the end, they were too afraid @ first because of the unknown forerunner relic signal) but the UNSC took it back at some point after the conflict (around the time of Halo 2?) and the majority of Spartan II's died in it's defense. John, Kelly, Linda, Kurt, Fred and I forget who else were the only Spartan II's who made it out (though Kelly was pronounced dead @ the scene and later revived after the events of Halo: CE) John carried her unconscious body aboard the Pillar during the retreat.

At the beginning of the original Halo, Master Chief is said to be the last spartan left. The book never mentioned any other spartans, as well.

Which book, First Strike? Or do you mean Halo: CE? Fall of Reach mentions the others a lot as it's pretty much a recap on their back story leading up to the huge conflict and their eventual deaths.

And MC was the last Spartan accounted for, not the last one left. The novels were a bit of an errata/expansion (and a welcome one at that)

Anyway mods can shut this thread down now, the topic's run it's course and has been thoroughly derailed lol (not that I don't enjoy discussing Halo Speaking of which Bungie released a tonne of screenshots & concept art for Reach and it's AWESOME!)

Sorry, I only buy complete RPGs and I'm sticking to that.

DLC doesn't HAVE to be purchased to enjoy the game so I don't understand your logic. DLC is often "side quest" material and since side quests do not have to be completed to enjoy the game, don't buy it and you won't miss it.

Doesn't the CE stand for collector's edition? It only had that name when I bought the game for the PC.

I read the book for the first Halo, and I remember reading that MC was the last surviving spartan very clearly.

Doesn't the CE stand for collector's edition? It only had that name when I bought the game for the PC.

And side quest material came standard every previous generation of gaming, it was not a paid extra.

If its presented like a proper expansion - which Rockstar's GTA IV expansions seem to be the only example of this generation - then perhaps I'll change my tune. But now that i know know about this, it explains quite a bit about about the game's design complaints and its sharp dropoff in sales in Japan.

Yeah people assumed all the other Spartans left on Reach had perished when the planet was glassed, when in fact a few of them survived and remained on Reach. They were located during the events of the book Halo: First Strike before the events Halo 2


I dont mind DLC, in fact i welcome it because it extends the life of some games pretty well. I loved the DLC of Fable 2, GTA4, and Star Wars: TFU because it got me to play them a bit more after I played the main story.

I'm with BBQ on this one.

If you want to add extra stuff to your game after it's released then man up and put together a proper expansion pack. To hell with all this wishy washy DLC that won't be around in five years, I want a damn physical copy of my bonus content and I want it all in one sizable chunk.

You know I have to chuckle at you guys. Usually its the older people that won't "get with the times" and here you yougun's are basically saying "well back in the day..." LOL I guess DLC is the wave of the future and either you are the type of person that has to "catch them all" or you can do without.

No, there was more, but 2-3 died on the Covenant space station in First Strike.

While I mostly agree with it, there have been some instances where it's just been... why the fuck wasn't this on the disc from day 1? Like RE5's multiplayer VS mode. I don't care if it was only $5, it's a matter of principal.
