Nope and nope. In AC4A there was no overheating, but there were ways to completely wipe out an enemies energy shielding so all other hits did more damage. With AC4A they had this new system where some weapons would be effective at piercing physical defense and others would be strong against an enemies energy shielding. Things like grenade launchers, if they hit, would do massive damage to the shield but not much to the bot itself while energy weapons would go through the shields much easier. Of course there was also those nuke weapons that could literally one shot things if you let them charge long enough.

And once you started to understand the system, it wasn't all that complex. But even so, with AC4A the parts were balanced enough where everything you had was useful, unless you wanted to focus on a specific task for your robot (blading/sniping/etc).

And then there was AC4. With an opening movie sporting that overdone old song that's in every dramatic preview (presumably, that song is now public domain). To make matters worse, when I started playing, I realized the background music was the same song, just turned down.
Most AC games have surprisingly great music. It's this weird, epic, futuristic techno stuff that's always faced paced and fitting for battle. AC4 was pretty much one of (if not the) worst games in the entire series, so little things like music just got hit the worst. But AC4A brought things back up a few notches to have some really epic background music.

Ugh...Man I dont even know anymore. I recently watched Mobile Suit Gundam and since I had watch mostly all non-UC series I did see how many of the other series took elements from the first series, sticking them in there. I was a Seed/00 fan, but now I think I like Gundam X the best. I would even like to see a prequel OVA, series, or movie to Gundam X showing a full movie of what happened 15 years earlier with Jamil Neate (sp?) as the main character.

Close Second: G Gundam (I know alot of people hate it, but I think I liked the characters more than anything lol.)

I'm watching Stardust Memory 0083 at the moment and I really like it so far. I think it is now my favorite Gundam OVA.

IKR. Least the Gundam 00 movie will be out sometime this year.

Some of the music was really good, especially in Last Raven.

Is "OPi" Op-Intensify? Is that thing in lots of the games (AC3 is the only one I played far enough to start getting godly overpowered parts)?

I've been able to make perma-flyers in a few ACs. Of course, being capable of indefinite flight doesn't make it the best idea.

It was an over-powered extension or something that allowed for unlimited flight and other unfair advantages. They removed it after AC3 IIRC.

Armored Core 5: bigger fights, smaller robots

As usual, Famitsu scans have beaten official sources to the punch, with scans of the magazine's reveal of Armored Core 5 now online. The article reveals that AC5 is a PS3/360 game, built, according to Siliconera, on the concept of "mayhem-like mecha action."

The "mayhem" is the result of the new "more complicated" three-dimensional stages, featuring many different heights from which to attack. These stages will be populated by smaller mechs -- the robots will come in at around five meters tall, instead of ten as in previous Cores. The smaller mechs will be more maneuverable, according to Andriasang's summary of the article, and able to traverse smaller areas of the environments, and even hide in some corners.

The OP-INTENSIFY(OP-I) was an Optional Part, internal pieces that slightly boosted an AC's performance, from the AC3 series that could be powered throughout the game by achieving secondary hidden objectives while having it equipped. Since it takes up all the Option Slots on an AC, it meant having to give up tweaks and perks normal Optional Parts granted an AC. However, once powered up completely, and activated after beating the game, the OP-I granted abilities like enhanced cooling, enhanced boosting, enhanced fully equipped Radar, beam sword extension and the Blade-Wave ability and allowed all ACs to fire back-mounted cannons while moving.

All of those things were removed from AC: Nexus onward. But many of those abilities were just made standard in AC:4A, meaning bots could have far more efficiency and moved at lightning speeds while in combat. Seriously, some of the super lightweight designs you can make are absolutely insane to control.

Ironically though, many of the lightest ACs in 4A are also some of the biggest energy hogs, they also force you to use light weight generators limiting your flight capabilities. While you can still make perma-flight ACs, they won't nearly be as quick as Speed built ACs.

Yeah I didn't get too far into it but some of the lightweight stuff even near the beginning was pretty damned fast >_>

But that's what I've always felt was missing in AC. I loved Zone of the Enders because it was so frantic and fast paced, and it's about time AC caught up with that. But yeah, OP-I actually allowed to use back mounted cannons even while in full-flight IIRC, which is pretty jank.

To clarify, I knew what Op-Intensify was, I was just wondering if that's what you meant when you mentioned "OPi" earlier.

I liked the part because 2 leggers not being able to shoot shoulder cannons while mobile always bothered the shit out of me. I hated it because it took away too much customization (two-fold; not only was it so good that it was "must-have" for most designs, the whole "can't equip anything else" is plain horrible) and also because I just hate "must-have" equipment in general. <Insert billions of FFXI examples here>

Yeah and there was a good reason for it too. Your legs would break off. It's almost like Artillery really, it's on a stationary platform for a reason! The recoil & stability issues firing those big ass cannons while moving would cause... as I said, you'd be likely to break the damn legs of the AC.

As much as I would love it, this is not Gundam Wing, and you can not recreate the freaking Heavy Arms Custom! (man that thing was seriously bad ass...)

While that might have been true for some of the larger weapons (though it really isn't) a lot of back cannons were small and had little to no actual recoil (energy weapons). It was more of a game balancing feature to make tanks and quad legs more viable. In 4A instead of forcing two leggers to kneel while shooting back cannons, they instead just made tanks and quads more accurate and stable, as well as allowing tank legs to carry full sized guns in their hanger units, where all other legs would only use smaller weapons like pistols and small swords.

Be that as it may, it probably would have been a headache for them to program specific weapons.
