Re: FFXIII scored by Famitsu, Etrian Odyssey III announced

Biggest difference is that Tifa has had 12 years to be drawn/cosplayed even more slutty than she actually was..
Eh. Tifa looks more indecent because she wears normal clothing (random suspenders aside) and has very large breasts (which she proudly sticks out at the end of every battle.) Plus her skimpy clothes are even more questionable since she's an Action Girl.

Yuffie showed just as much skin as Tifa (more, actually) but nobody cared. She wasn't the one doing kickboxing with D-cup breasts.

Lion is also more appealing than Yuffie, Rikku or Vanille for similar reasons.

          Sweet.

That means in about two weeks my friend will be done with it and I get to borrow it and play it.

          Also, for Mal:

          Help

Only thirteen games so far have received perfect scores. They are listed in chronological order:

          1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, Nintendo, for Nintendo 64)
          2. Soulcalibur (1999, Namco, for Dreamcast)
          3. Vagrant Story (2000, Square Co., for PlayStation)
          4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003, Nintendo, for Nintendo GameCube)
          5. Nintendogs (2005, Nintendo, for Nintendo DS)
          6. Final Fantasy XII (2006, Square Enix, for PlayStation 2)
          7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008, Nintendo, for Wii)
          8. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2008, Konami, for PlayStation 3)
          9. 428: FÅ«sa Sareta Shibuya de (2008, Sega, for Wii)
          10. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (2009, Square Enix, for Nintendo DS)
          11. Monster Hunter Tri (2009, Capcom, for Wii)
          12. Bayonetta (2009, Platinum Games, for Xbox 360)
          13. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (2009, Nintendo, for Wii)

Personally, I think money was involved for every title* after Nintendogs. It took 12 years before the first perfect score, but more than half of all the perfect scores were given out in the past 2 years alone.

*Except Monster Hunter Tri, because Monster Hunter is the best fucking game in existence and if you don't like it well fuck you.

well a worthy Vagrant Story sequel is not possible without key members. Who knows if Matsuno is feeling good to make another game. I really didn't like the new Brave Fencer Musashi game they made. It didn't have the charm of the first.

              anyways, here's a new scan!

Matsuno is working in games again, he was last noted for penning the story to Madworld.

                          Another detail about EOIII surfaced.

It was revealed to have multiplayer before, but it wasn't said to be over NWFC or not. Today online play was confirmed. It will support up to 5 players in cooperative online play.

I don't want people in my dungeon, claiming my lootz.

But if it has bonus dungeons specifically for multiplayer, that's hot.

Well, my greater concern is actually that someone would put the DS and walk away during a turn-based encounter.

EOIII and Final Fantasy: The 4 Warriors of Light seem to be the first RPGs at least on console or handheld that are daring to try turn-based multiplayer online. Let's just hope leaders can kick AFK (AFDS?) players.

Etrian Odyssey's loot is generally more along the lines of what FFXII and some other RPGs do, you resell your loot and it goes into the economy and people make stuff and resell it back to you. Weapons and armor can and do get found in dungeons, but its not a common thing, extremely rare.

1UP's RPG Blog : Final Fantasy XIII: Optimizing My Paradigm

Jeremy Parish has some import impressions of FFXIII's Paradigm Shift battle system. They've kept some of the more tactical elements of FFX, FFX-2 and FFXII, but there's also a shade of Shin Megami Tensei-style play.

The other two characters are AI controlled, but that's not anything to be concerned about. Similar to the system Persona 3 used, you'll be able to command allies to switch strategies, or in this case, roles and you will need to direct them in this regard often, because the enemies will change up tactics just as much as you will.

It also seems to be pushing the player to fight effectively. In an SMT game, simply leveling up does not win the day, knowledge does. If you have a weakness and the enemy hits it you can still be in a bit of trouble, even if that enemy is weaker than you (and especially if he has stronger friends with him. So you're going to want to learn to balance roles, knowing when to play defensively, how to support and when to pour on physical and magical offense.

It seems something similar to Dissidia's "Break" status also comes into play here. You want to push enemies to Break Status, always, but you have to find the right rhythm to do it. This is more like exploiting an elemental weakness in an SMT game, pushing an enemy to Break will allow you allow you the opportunity to deal extra damage.

Its nice to see SE is keeping what's worked in the past, but is also keen to how their competition is changing the face of RPG combat. I actually like encounters that encourage effective, decisive strategies over time rather than just mashing X and plowing through everything.

Also nice to see X-2 chaining system is back.
