I'm usually reluctant to post anything from NeoGAF, as its the BG of general gaming forums, but two newsworthy pieces over there today:

Final Fantasy XIII - 39/40, so apparently is pretty good, but not as awesome as Nintendogs. They posted translations over on the thread there, so go there to read it.

Etrian Odyssey III for DS announced! New character art, new classes (including pirate), new setting, but otherwise similar game. Instead of exploring a deep forest of the inside of the Yggdrasil Tree to a sky realm, this time your duty is to chart out the open sea. Yar.

If you like old-school dungeon romps, I'm talking like PC old-school vector dungeon kinds of games, then Etrian Odyssey is that, but with a few more contemporary elements thrown in.

I've always had a strong dislike for games of this genre so my thoughts on this basically boil down to:
"Is it me or does Atlus really love loli?"

I'm assuming it fell somewhere between trying to do superdeformed and trying to make them hot, too.

Not that it matters, that's pretty much all you see of your characters within the game right there.

Like SMT Nocturne, they were keen to put "encounter warning" icons. There are also ways to reduce encounter rates (Paladin learns it, interestingly enough) and the nastiest, meanest things on the map are usually visible and can be avoided. Thing is you never know what they really are til you collide with the orb that represents them on the map.

Its actually better to avoid FOEs (ridiculous acronym for NMs) until you've levelled a few floors further down/up/over and come back to them later. They tend to rape you more than the average mob will.

In practice the only difference between a superdeformed female being used as fanservice and a loli being used as fanservice is the age you claim the character has. =P

Also the black-haired girl is suspiciously flat.

Yeah but then again Pokemon characters are seldom sexualized (the almighty Rule 34 takes care of that one. Ok and the shitty Anime.) Atlus characters are just plain moe.

and HAH! FF13 comes a point shy of tieing with FF12, the only game (or at least the only FF) to ever get a 40/40.

FFXII is not the only game because Super Smash Bros Brawl got a 40/40 too.

Up until a few years ago Famitsu was notorious for very seldom giving 40/40 scores, giving it a reputation for tough reviews. Now they give 'em away like expired candy.

(Actually they've always been shills, it's just more transparent now.)

This is a fan render with Tifa's Advent Children face grafted on, but pretty good.

We can add 45% more skin after the legs are accounted for.

Biggest difference is that Tifa has had 12 years to be drawn/cosplayed even more slutty than she actually was..
