See an Aion GM in action blowing up spammers - Massively

NCsoft has always been fairly vocal about about their assault on Aion's goldspammer and bot epidemic. They bolstered the game's spam filter a while ago and their Game Surveillance Unit reportedly banned over 27,000 botting accounts just last week. It's great to hear about these positive statistics, but if your game experience has been ruined in the past by some of these unsavory characters, you might be looking for something more visceral -- and thankfully, we've got that for you.

Enter Youtube user MidoriPeanut, who managed to catch an Aion GM in the throes of a banning spree and recorded it all for the rest of us to enjoy. The movie features the GM blowing up a number of goldspammer ad stores, all set to the dramatic Syringe by Emilie Autumn. Sure, this could all take place behind the scenes and the offenders would quietly disappear from the world, but isn't it a lot more fun seeing them cast off to hell by a cutesy animal? I said the same thing. I couldn't even see the bunny at first, but then I'm pretty sure the bunny started getting bigger over time.

FFXI's banning system would be effed up if it was like this. Especially if they used a Forest Rabbit to do so...

FFXI GMs have a sense of humor, but they're busy folk.

I've personally witnessed a GM turn a fish bot into a bat. This was while they weren't technically working.

Yes. During a halloween event, GMs showed up in towns in costumes (NPC/mob models not available to players), ran around adding random treats to players' inventories, walked up areas that players can't get to (without POS hacking), other random things. One GM (dressed as a crawler) walked up to a fishbot (who was constantly there), and turned the character into a bat. This kept the character from being able to fish, of course. This was before the STF crackdown.

The easiest way to deal with bots on Aion is just hop on the forums for the other realm and tell them where bots usually set up. Watching a gank squad descend on a bunch of bot is always funny.

This will have to be on the US servers though. Like SE and Blizzard, NCSoft doesn't give a shit about the UK players and there has never been a GM appearance on my server if the server forums are anything to go by. The UK servers are always full of grifers, bots, hackers, exloiters and RMTs. The worst hack I've been victim of was someone the same level as me summoning a ton of mobs on top of me when I had him at about 30% HP (I was i nthe middle of a deserted path where mobs don't spawn or roam). One more burst would have finished him off too. That was 2 months ago and I still haven't heard back from the GM.

It's strange that you say that because I've had two encounters with GMs since I've been playing. One was to report harassment by RMT (I blocked him and the whispers kept getting through) and the other was to report someone for hacking (his hp went from 10% to 100% a few times during our fight and there was no-one around and no log messages about item/abilities etc). The first one they responded to quite quickly and the 2nd took them a day or so but I believe both offenders were dealt with.

What server are you on?

Fixed. I liked Aion, but NCSoft has not done shit about rampant botting in any of the games they've brought to the west and they only cater to the Korean super grindtastic style. Even in Aion, the least Korean game made in Korea, quests are only efficient until the late teens and then it's back to grindan unless you want to level slow as fuck.

Glad you posted the vid though, I liked the song and listened to a few more songs that belonged to the artist. I ended up adding about 18 new songs to my iPod. One of the songs sounds like it could be Final Fantasy Boss music when it gets near the breakdown.

What server are you on?

Kalil, one of the newest servers for UK players IIRC (it also has a massive Dutch and Polish population and is the defacto serve for players from those countries). I was originially on Gorgos and had a Lv35 Cleric on there (Sardia) but I got sick of the 3 hour queues and Aion won't allow server transfers.

My main on Kalil was a Ranger (Konakona, customised to look like Konata from Lucky Star) but the class never gets any love in patches; auto attack is still bugged and Warrior and Mage path jobs can still outdamage us with auto attacks alone, and it's a massive pain to find the Stigmas everyone demands you have for it for PvP when said Stigmas can only be gotten via PvP drops... So I rerolled as Sardia, my Cleric who is hovering somewhere around the mid-teens due to me being too busy with college work to play.

The grind isn't as bad as FFXI (I usually get sick of grinding on FFXI once I hit Lv 50-60 on a job and want to play something else) and nowhere near as bad as stuff like Maple Story but is does turn into a massive pain for any class who can't chain together lots of kills in a very short time. Basically anyone not a Sorceror (think BLM/RDM) or Spiritmaster (think SMN/BLM) or maybe a Ranger with maxed out physical crit (for some reason ranged attacks are physical attacks which means you're pretty much useless at countering anything wearing plate armour in PvP since it's impossible to kite players in Abyss when they can just fly away).

Elyos but considering that my new main is only Lv16 I have no problem with rerolling Asmos; I can sit down and have my rerolled Cleric back to that level by the weekend. Just don't expect me to be terribally active since I am a full time college student and I do have several essays that have to be in by the beginning of Janurary. Tempted to try out a Templar though. They look fun.
